Looking for a new Laptop (Work / Light gaming)

Requirements:
14" - 15.6"
GT750M performance or higher
FHD 1080p resolution
i5 Processor
HDD + SSD preferred
Exterior importance - I like Dell 7000 series but I want to know if there's a better deal (Dell 7000 series 15" is $1999)
Weight I prefer as light as possible maybe 2.5kg and below?
Backlit keyboard
Budget $2000 and below (can increase a little if needed)

I use Photoshop a lot on very high resolution photos, some MS Office works and also work with many internet browser tabs.

Thanks in advance!

You can try MSI GE60 2PE Apache Pro @ 2.6kg (with battery).

MSI Global GE60 2PE Apache Pro

If want the lightest 15.6", please look at GS60 2PE Ghost Pro @ 1.96kg (with battery). But price is higher. :D

I think you can consider Aftershock XG15. It is slightly heavier than 2.5kg, but you get very good value, and after sales service. You can customize to the spec you want. :)

Hi,

I am also looking for a work / play laptop.

The only game I really play is dota2. I am considering either MSI or Gigabyte. I have seen MSI around. But like no one use Gigabyte.

Any idea on which is better? I am not very good at computer specs.

Hi Applelohgirl,

Maybe u might want to try Aftershock PC. They offer better after sales support and their prices are quite good and competetive. Also, do u bring ur laptop around? I would recommend a 13.3" to 15.6" laptop.

Additionally, u might want to wait if u want the best cos i7 5th gen and Nvidia Maxwell is round the corner and from what I see, its pretty gud. So yeah, if u need one urgently, I recommend a ready made one tho, MSI, Gigabyte etc.

Also, If u want a brand recommendation, I would recommend MSI based on my personal experience, slightly nicer, but then again, u only play Dota 2.

I would therefore recommend a mainstream laptop, Acer or ASUS would be find but if u have the cash to spare, I would recommend MSI.

Thanks!

its a good laptop apart for the sub par screen... the viewing angles and colors are very bad..

Can't argue about those but it's the cheapest at $1900 with such specs in the market, plus the sleek form factor and reasonable weight which I can live with :D

The rubber matt material on the keyboard is a great touch too.

Just did a quick summary of the gaming laptops around $2k region. Omitted Dell as it is more like a multimedia laptop... Hope the information helps.

Asus ROG G750
i7, GTX870 4GB DDR5, 17.3" FHD @ $2298.
Pros: One of the cheapest GTX870 GB around. 2x 2.5" HDD bay, possible to put in another 2.5" SSD
Cons: Very heavy - 4.5kg. Power brick is 900gm. If you bring it out, it is 5.4kg. Above your budget

Asus ROG G56
i7, GTX850 4GB DDR3, 15.6" FHD @ $1698.
Pros: Cheaper. Weight is 2.7kg. Reasonable to carry around. No slots for SSD upgrades
Cons: The graphics is a DDR3 graphics which is sufficient for the games you play, but is just a mid-low end gaming graphics. SSD add-on can only be done by sacrificing Harddisk or the DVDRW.

MSI GE60 2PG
i7, GTX850 2GB DDR3, 15.6" FHD @ $1699.
Pros: Cheaper. Lighter Weight is 2.5kg. Reasonable to carry around.
1 mSATA SSD slot available for upgrading.
Gaming features - steelseries keyboard, steelseries software, dynaaudio etc..
Cons: The graphics is a DDR3 graphics which is sufficient for the games you play, but is just a mid-low end gaming graphics.

MSI GE60 2PC
i7, GTX850 2GB DDR5, 15.6" FHD @ $1899.
Pros: Cheaper. DDR5 graphics. Lighter Weight is 2.5kg. Reasonable to carry around. Gaming features - steelseries keyboard, steelseries software, dynaaudio etc..
2 mSATA SSD slot available for upgrading. Can do RAID 0 with the SSDs.
Cons: $100 more

MSI GE60 2PE
i7, GTX860 2GB DDR5, 15.6" FHD @ $2199.
Pros: Cheaper. GTX860 DDR5 graphics. Lighter Weight is 2.5kg. Reasonable to carry around. 2 mSATA SSD slot available for upgrading. Can do RAID 0 with the SSDs.
Gaming features - steelseries keyboard, steelseries software, dynaaudio etc..
Cons: Above your budget

Lenovo Y50-70
i7, GTX860 4GB DDR5, 15.6" FHD @ $1999.
Pros: One of the cheapest GTX860 graphics model in its class. DDR5 graphics. Weight is 2.5kg. Reasonable to carry around.
Cons: Built as a multimedia laptop, thus lack some gaming features that MSI and Asus have. SSD add-on can only be done by sacrificing Harddisk or the DVDRW.

Or TS can also consider to customized from Aftershock. They are doing customized gaming models, so would be able to match something.

:)

When is i7 5th gen and Nvidia Maxwell cpu coming out?

i7 5th gen first wave will be ultralow voltage processors. Main voltage ones should be next year Q1. ETA around Feb - Mar Period.

Nividia will be launching their GTX970 and GTX980 in coming November in Maxwell architecture. The lower end GTX940-960 will be next year. :)

it depends if your hardcore gamer and want to play everything in max settings then wait for 970/980m however when they launch its gonna be damn expensive.

if ur not so hardcore then u can just make do with the current gen gpus which is alr enough to play games on FHD and would for sure cost less than the 970/980m

Any recommendation for 14inch laptop out there..

Budget? Gaming? If Gaming Razer blade 14" / Aorus x3+ 13.9" closest (Provided if you got high budget) If non gaming then there are much more choices but try to stay out of Acer and Asus... Getting bad to worse already
