HI all,

My current 5 year old rig is dying, and planning to build a new rig. Hoping to get some advice and recommendations. All advice is greatly appreciated. Main use is casual gaming like Dota2, and watching of movies and working on excel. Not going to overclock. Will be reusing my kb, mouse, speakers and monitor (Dell U2312HM 23" 1080p IPS 60hz).

My budget is around $1.1k. Looking for a more stable and durable rig.

SSD: samsung evo 85-250gb
HDD: WD 1TB 7200rpm
CPU + MB: Intel? more stable than ryzen?
GPU: ?
Ram: G.SKILL RIPJAWS V2400MHZ CL15 8gb
PSU: EVGA PSU
Casing: ?
Windows 10: get from carousell?

All the advice is deeply appreciated. Cheers!

Intel platform is more mature. They have been steadily dominating the market for 5 years+ until the recent AMD Ryzen launched. Current Ryzen lineup have no integrated gpu unlike their Intel counterpart until the upcoming APU that will be launched end of this year or early next year.

In short, yes, Intel is more foolproof out of the box. Less updates, less bugs to be solved as it's platform have mature. AMD will need more tweaking for the moment as their platform is still new, but out of the box, it still perform similar if not better, to their Intel counterpart. Introducing more cores and threads of processing power at lower price point.

Of course, with your current usage, I'd say Intel Pentium G4560 is enough for your usage. But if you ever wanna dwell into more cpu intensive work load that you might wanna prepare for, go for AMD Ryzen 5 1500X.

This is what I would suggest to fully utilize your budget.

CASE: Tecware F3 ($49)
MOBO+CPU: Asus Prime B350M-A + AMD Ryzen 1500X (ard. $450, not reflected in price list)
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw V 2400MHz 2x8GB ($189 via lazada)
PSU: EVGA B450 ($79)
SSD: OCZ TL100 240GB ($120)
HDD: WD BLUE 1TB ($72)
GPU: Palit Dual GTX 1060 3GB ($275 via Lazada, after $30 off using SC card on Wednesday with code SCWOWWED)
OS: Windows 10 Home (<$20 via carousell)

TOTAL: $1244

Prices quoted from PC theme or otherwise stated.
