Looking to build budget PC

Hi all,

Looking to build a budget PC.
Main usage is for powerpoint, word and excel etc.
Small profile casing preferred.

Items that i need:

CPU + MB combo (with IGPU)
Ram sticks (16gb)
PSU
SSD (128gb)
HDD (1tb)
PC case (no need side windows)

No need OS
No need KB+Mouse
No need monitor

Budget between 600 (if possible) to 1,000.

If you can find it same price and 3000mhz, go ahead. Coz I just refer to the same price list only for convenience sake

Of coz, if you know which exact shop sell at the price you know and provided pc themes have the stock, you can talk to yi long and bargain with him. I believe he can match the price for you?

I'd go for a i3 $600 build or a i3 $900 NUC build instead. Can't see any reason for spending $200 extra on unneeded processing power. And an aftermarket cooler is a waste of $$$.

Would the extra savings be worth it if I change to generic Kingston 8gb ramsticks instead G.Skill Ripjaws? I suppose the performance hit from this should not be felt as no game is involved right?

Separately, I think the lifespan of a HDD is higher than a SSD right? And as such, a HDD should be a more secure storage option?

Ryzen or Intel don't matter for your usage. In fact, Ryzen 3 is more suitable for entry level gaming, while Intel i5 is a stronger powerhouse for better multitasking and speed.

By all means, getting value ram is fine. 2400mhz is plenty of speed.

SSD is still a better option. HDD is prone to mechanical failure and will slow over time due to mechanical wear and tear. SSD have write limits, but for office work, your system will die way before the SSD will. So, I don't agree with HDD have better longevity than SSD. Only in archiving (storing data and dump it a side until n years later you take out to access data inside), HDD will have better longevity. For a system that will boot everyday/week/month, SSD will still prevail.

Ryzen loves faster RAM. So long as you can run at 2666 or higher it will be good. The default 2133 will be slower.

840 evo have some issues with their controller and was fixed in 850 evo. Coz mine died out of nowhere after 2-3 yrs of usage in laptop. So better off getting 850 evo onwards.

Also, some shops are selling 860 evo at the same price as 850 evo (or rather they nvr drop price of 850 evo). In this case, also better to get 860 evo?

In conclusion, just get 860 evo. It is getting cheaper for higher gb and makes it worth your $$ as compared to launch.

Personally i would go for an intel nuc. Mount it behind your monitor and save the clutter.

2666Mhz CL15 RAM is a good balance of speed and price for today's platforms. This is especially true for Ryzen which loves fast RAM

I have sold many systems with 2200G/2400G, 8/16GB of RAM and 500GB SSDs to offices and home users and the responses has always been positive. The price of the 2200G/2400G relative to their performance allows one to spec in a single decent-sized SSD (which is actually what really matters to these users) instead of a unbalanced 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD combo

Plus the Ryzen APUs's onboard Vega 8 or 11 graphics comes in handy for those moments when you finger itchy and feel like playing DOTA 2 or CS GO

There are some stuff that I would suggest you to change from the previous build.
1. Never save on Psu, get a proper decent one.
2. 500gb ssd to 256. Get SanDisk / Toshiba / wd. You won't notice the difference for office use.
3. Get a hdd for extra storage. (Budget build)
4. For office work, you will not see performance difference in ram speed. Get the cheapest value ran that is available
