Been using a Macbook Pro for the longest time but it's giving out on me and I'm not intending to go for the latest refresh.

My requirements and intended usage:
- Some amount of gaming (type of games I like include Mass Effect, KOTR, Doom, TitanFall etc.)
- Do a fair bit of photo editing
- Don't need much storage (have lots of external backup space)
- Don't need to be highly portable (expecting to be 'desk-bound' 75% of the time)
- Budget max $3.5K

Anyone have suggestions? I see Asus, MSI, AfterShock getting mentioned quite a bit in some of the threads here, but I'm quite lost as to the options.

On a side note, saw the announcement that the New Razer Blade is now retailing in SG

I very much like the form factor of this one but have bad experience with Razer products - due to their use of 'rubberized' material (tends to after some use and gets all sticky). I presume their laptop would have this too?

Razer laptops are made of aluminium not rubber

In the current market you'll find rubber on alienware and asus laptops, on the palmrest.

Thanks for the clarification chiaRH! Ah, will be staying away from Alienware and Asus then....really dislike the sticky feeling of the rubberized material after it starts breaking down. Some of the Razer mice I had, started to become this way just a few months of use (I don't even have sweaty palms, plus I use them in air-con environment, no sun :S).

Consider HP OMEN

ok i know from the other thread u were really interested in the Omen but lets not evangelise that too hastily, the person said photo editing is one of the use cases and the if the 2017 omen is anything like its 2016 counterpart, the display is pretty mediocre in terms of colour space coverage. In fact like the Omen, a lot of the value orientated gaming laptops like 2017 Asus FX Series and Dell inspiron have their notebookcheck reviews citing under 40% adobe srgb coverage FYI

a mouse is cheaper and no where near in the same league as an expensive gaming laptop but yes even the expensive laptop isnt immune to the nature of rubber in wear and tear

This here is a display unit of an alienware at the dell store at plaza singapura

Razer Blade while a fully metal body, the matte black paint job is a fingerprint magnet.

Head down to Gamepro to touch the Razer Blade Stealth to see if the finish is something you can live with before buying the bigger Blade through RazerStore.

Those rubberised palmrest on at least my previous asus 752 can easily be wiped off with a damp cloth.
