Lost iphone 14Pro - what can be done?

Hey guys,

So my wife lost her Iphone 14P last night in the ladies toilet @ Marina Sq. It was switched off 3 mins later after we went back to retrieve the phone and since last night about 2200hrs, the phone has not been switched on yet.

So we login into icloud to mark the phone as lost and left a message. But till now it has been pending since. What are the possibilities here? So the person just keeps the phone and never try to turn it back on at all?

Anyone has similar situation before and what more can we do? We have already lodge a police report for the missing phone this morning too. TIA

Well, you did the Find My and Mark as Lost, here's what Apple has to say.

• Remotely erase your iPhone or iPad: If you have access to a trusted device or a family member’s device, erase your device with Find My. Otherwise, erase your device from iCloud.com/find.
• If your iPhone is covered by AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss, file a claim for an iPhone replacement. Don’t remove your iPhone from Find My or your Apple ID until your claim has been fully approved.
• Report it to local law enforcement. They may request the serial number of your iPhone or iPad, which you can find even if you don’t have the device. Find out how to find the serial number of your device.
• Contact your wireless network provider to report your missing iPhone and ask them to disable your account; if your iPhone is covered under your wireless network provider plan, file a claim as well.
• Remove your iPhone or iPad from your trusted devices: Sign in to appleid.apple.com, then choose Devices from the sidebar. Select your device, scroll down and select Remove from account. If you have filed an iPhone Theft and Loss claim, don’t remove the iPhone from your trusted devices until your claim has been fully approved.

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is not available in all countries and regions.

Apparently no. Under Find My the device has no last seen location and when we set as lost it has been pending since. Means the phone is not turned on with any internet connection.

my issue here is if i remove the device from my trusted devices wouldn’t that mean i can no longer find it?

actually tbh. the phone is as good as a brick to that person who found it since if there is find my activated, i understand cannot reset or unlock.

I think you can’t totally rule out the possibility that your lost phone can actually be repurposed by the person who picked it up even after you activated find my and mark it as lost.

With this news i think can forget about getting it back already. Since the one who took the phone was quick enough to turn off the phone, she is definitely not new to this.

moi very honest. Dec 2021 moi found a 12 pro and went to police station to report lost of phone.

I haven’t used this service before so I can’t confirm it really works. But there websites out there that offer similar services to the help remotely reset Apple devices locked to Apple ID so i won’t dismiss its possibility.

To be honest, in this case it's almost as good as just forgetting it and get a new phone. First things first, it's carelessness that caused this so on your wife's side there's some responsibility to it. Even if a police report is made, honestly also there's nothing much they can do.

There are lots of lost/stolen phones cases and I myself in the past also kena, but who to blame? Myself for being careless. Even if the phone has Find My turned on and tracked to a location somewhere in SG if you're lucky, would you personally go there and approach or find?

I recently thought I lost my iPhone and I did a find my device. The proximity of the "located" phone doesn't point u exactly where it is. However, if you have any confidential data inside, there's an option to erase the phone.

In this case, say the phone got turned on and you did a Find my device, it will probably show you marina square, esplanade, etc.... that's already too big for an area to search your phone.

So like many people said, just take it as it's gone and learn the lesson.

I tried contacting one of the most well reviewed service provider in taobao, he said need the actual phone to evaluate further. Too bad I don’t have a recent iPhone that’s locked, if I have then I don’t mind spending a bit of money to see how it’s actually done.

Not surprised that there’s such service available but I’m also skeptical of the success rate of resetting in this case.

I feel that once it’s marked as ‘lost phone’ then it should be very hard for them to recover.

the mark as lost can only be activated if it is connected to the internet.

If you only mark as lost after the phone is turned off, nothing will happen.

Once the phone is turned back on and connected to the internet, then it might be activated.

If there's a passcode set, depending on the level of complexity of the passcode, it will also be quite a bit of effort for the person to be able to decode it to be able to reach the stage of resetting.

and even if reset, and there's icloud. i remb need to logout of icloud before it can be reset.

So I don't think it is that simple.

In any case, do you have a specific outcome you are looking at other than thinking of getting it back? Because all the find my thing doesn't really help you get the phone back if it is not connected to the internet.

and to that person it will also just be a brick
