As stated my power supply unit fan has a loud choppy Brbrbrrrrrr noise after a few minutes from start up

Is it due to the ball bearings wearing out?
Any reliable shops in sls where I can get someone to replace the faulty unit for me?

Could the noise have came from somewhere else (CPU cooler, GPU cooler, case fans)? PSU fans are quite hard to spoil unless you have bought a low quality, dirt cheap PSU.

If you have some spare fan, you can replace it yourself.
Quite simple acutually.

Pretty sure it's the psu fan, opened the Cpu to check
Bought for slightly less than 100 few years back, not sure if that's a cheap psu

State PSU brand, model, wattage. Also state full system specs just in case.

not too sure what's my psu model,
managed to find a box "Verudium V-520XT" says there lifetime warranty,

but might not be this one as I changed my psu once before

G45M (MS-7521)
E5200 @ 2.5ghz LGA 775
4gb ram (3gb usable)
ATI Radeon HD 4850

system has been running really slow for me lately, its an old system
have a win 8.1 laptop, although I mainly use my desktop

1) How about you open the side panel of the casing and read off the label on the PSU? Don't worry, it is just a couple of screws, you can't damage your computer that easily.

2) Download and run HWInfo and use the program to find out the specs/parts of your system.

3) Define 'slow'. Slow in what? Opening of files? Running of programs?

andyson g480

ran hwinfo, its quite similar to cpuz, what info do u need?

at times slow in web browsing, multiple tabs, bit of lag here and there when opening (eg control panel)

even my normal fan has some brrrs noise, though not as loud as the psu chopping noise

HDD model and OS version. (Are you using a 32-bit OS?)

Download and run CrystalDiskInfo to check HDD health and use Windows Task Manager to see the amount of unused RAM when idle.

I think that it would be better to get a new PSU. Are you using the rig for anything?

Win 7 ultimate
32 bit

Hitachi 500gb

Are psu and fans universal? I'm using a small form factor casing, though I think it can still fit a normal size mono.

Otherwise I'll bring my pc down to sls and get them to install for a fee

Mainly web surfing, video, movie
Can't really support current games

The Andyson G480 is a PSU in a standard ATX PSU form factor. If your casing can fit in the Andyson, it can fit in any PSU in the market. Get a Seasonic S12II 520W for $85 and and enjoy a PSU with superior build quality and 80+ Bronze rated efficiency.

Just wondering though, are you interested in revamping your system or are you fine with what you have now?

Any recommended shops to get the above?

What are my options for a revamp?

Any games that you want to play? I think that you will need to buy a new system anyway since most of your parts are quite incompatible with modern parts. You can only recycle the HDD, DVD-drive and the casing. Can keep the GPU as a spare GPU. What casing are you using?

However, you can also simply get a completely new system and use the old rig as a HTPC/Surfing/BT machine if you wish. No point wasting perfectly good hardware.

PC Themes if you want good customer service or Tradepac if you can haggle.

forgot the casing name but its a simple black casing with 2 side see thru panel
casing measuring 38cmx28cmx23cm

for gaming as long as can run games like D3, SC2 or upcoming mmos smoothly should be fine

I have a laptop bought last yr dec with gt740m, not sure if it can do some moderate gaming

yea, maybe I'll keep it as a spare after I fix it
pcs these days are quite affordable, under 1k should be able to get a decent unit?

CPU+ Mobo: ASROCK H81M-HDS + i5 4460 (319)
RAM: G.SKILL PC 12800/1600MHZ DDR3 CL11 VALUE RAM (102)
GPU: PALIT GTX 660 (189) (lazada.com, direct from Convergent Systems)
SSD: OCZ VERTEX 460 120GB/ADATA SP900 128GB (99)
HDD: TOSHIBA 1TB 7200RPM (69)
DVD-RW: LG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: SUPERFLOWER HX 600M GOLD MODULAR (109)
Case: DEEPCOOL TESSERACT (65)
OS: WINDOWS 7 HOME PREM (120)

Total cost: $1097

Unless otherwise stated, buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, get PC Themes to assemble for you for a fee.

Notes:
1) This rig will be able to play D3 and most MMOs at max settings. However, it can only play SC2 at high only in 4v4 scenarios. If you want to play SC2 on max settings, consider getting a Sapphire R9 280 Dual-X for $285 from lazada.com.

2) This is actually a relatively budget build. Can consider increasing the budget.

3) Nigel does fix laptops too.
