I need some advice pertaining to claiming of damage luggage. Should I claim from Airline (China Eastern) or insurance (MSIG). Thank You!

You can only claim from one source.
When you get your damaged luggage, you should immdiately go to the airport lost and found luggage counter to report your damaged luggage, before coming out of the immigration custom ...

If I am you, I would claim from travel insurance instead ...

Once you come out from immigration, you can still go back in the belt area immediately and report to the airline but cumbersome.
But given TS can start a thread to ask, then I believe it's been a while since he came out.

I've only claimed from airline before and anything unrepairable, they will replace a similar luggage size for you at your convenience.
This is good if you don't have purchase receipt or when luggage is quite old where insurance will only pro-rate the compensation

What if it can be repaired? They will pay for the charges?

For SQ or cathay, those 5* airline, if cannot be repaired they would give you one more new luggage ... My fren recently flew SQ. her luggage was damaged, however the replacement was those very chui and flimsy type ...

For other airline, you might want to check with them ...

For budget airline such as jetstar, they would tell you to get official quotation, with the company heading from 2 local luggage repairer in singapore .
hence, is most likely you wont be able to get, cox no one so free do an official quotation for you, instead of just replying your email ...

If there is a hole in the luggage, how can you repair it, yet jetstar still wants you to get the repair quotation ... weird ...

the moral of the story, don't buy expensive bag with own cash.
just sign up credit card and get free Samsonite bag.

If you can afford to use a rimowa and check in then probably you'll be traveling in atleast business class. I'm sure at such level and pricing, they have taken into consideration.

So far I have changed a few luggage. Brands you can find from most bigger retailers.
They replace with the same calibre luggages.
I don't know what's their policy for unknown brands

So far my experience are luggage replacement due to plastic cracking or punctured.
But their SOP is the contractor will collect your luggage and examine whether if its repairable then send you back/provide replacement. So I assume even for repairs its on airline cost.

actually who will even keep the luggage purchase receipt, I don't. Insurance claim also not easy for damage luggage. Buy insurance easy claim always a different story afterwards. :s22::s22:

I won't want to go through so much hassle, and to spoil again after repair during one of your trip will be damn upsetting.

actually last time did encounter luggage being damage with cathay, my wife make a report at the baggage counter and we claim from Income insurance the full price of the luggage (we go back the shop and get a receipt again from the kind uncle who sell us the luggage)

MSIG should be flexible I think. Tell them you lost the receipt. They will ask you to send for repair and claim via repair charges. If not worth to repair, they will compensate you certain % of your luggage price.

I ever claimed my camera from EQ travel without receipt. I bought around S$300+ but it was spoilt and camera service centre said not worth to repair. So I forward the email to EQ and end up they paid me S$100 for my spoilt camera cos the camera is 3 years old.
