Is the Intel 660p 512GB SSD at S$90 a good buy? International item so warranty claim will be a risk / troublesome. But much cheaper than local ADATA XPG SX8200 at $139.

A NVME SSD will allow me to continue using my 2.5in SATA SSD without drop in speeds although I'm not sure whether the speed drops will be noticeable at all. But the Intel 660p pricing is really attractive!

Any advice or comments to share? Thanks!

The 1tb is much more attractive. Last week it was at $148.

The warranty for intel is pretty straight forward. For intel you can contact intel, and they will send a delivery man to collect the defective product from you. They will then mail it back to you a new one.

However, this is not the fastest drive out there. Is only twice the speed of SATA ssd. Unlike nvme ssd such as samsung are 4 times faster than regular ssd.

It is a great drive.

Saw a Kingston 120gb ssd going for USD$19.99 and 240gb going for USD$29.99

It is a crime not to upgrade your PC or laptop to a ssd now...

2 different types :
Sata m2 ssd and nvme m2 ssd

do take note of write endurance, it may not be suitable if you have alot of write data. the capacity is about 50% less than samsung if i remember correctly. price wise it is very attractive if you dont demand the fastest and do alot of writing.

You can get a Crucial P1 1TB M.2 NVME SSD on the Amazon Prime Now app for S$143.50 under the international section. I've sent a MX500 back to crucial for RMA before and I am quite impressed with the response and speed of the entire process.

I would recommend the MX500 1TB M2 SSD over the P1. While in theory P1 is faster because of the NVMe connection, the advantage can rarely be felt in real life usage. Moreover the MX500 has a much higher endurance.

512gb endurance only 100tb, if he is heavy raw photo or video editing and use as temp pc storage while editing, will run out very fast. one short photo trip, i can shoot upto 20-30gb. if 4k video i think will be alot more.

I don't know how big is 4k video

But 100tb/30gb=3333 days

yes, for my application is fine. 30gb is avg I will believe, there are photographers who shoot much more than me since a typical single raw photo can be from 30plus mb to close to 100mb on 5d4 and dependent on camera setting & lighting condition. just goggled and found Gh4, 4k60 file size, it can be 3.75 MB to 796 MB per second of 4K60 video depending on format, that is very huge.

100tbw factor should be a considering factor if one seldom change hardware often and frequently writing big file.

2 scenarios

1)he doesn't write as much, the drive doesn't die due to wear & tear

unless he download game everyday: 100TB/30gb=3333days that's 9years

2)he films 4k and write a lot, due to the large file, after X months he decides to change it because this drive isn't fast for large files.
This scenario is out because he uses SATA ssd till now
ONLY if he says he film 4k and uses SATA then pls continue talking about the endurance

Write endurane isnt a problem for most end users. Unless the persom write 100-200gb everyday.

For crucial, contact crucial USA and once approved, they will send you a RMA slip to be printed out and pasted on the front of package. SSD/RAM are small items, so send to them via singapost registered mail cost <$10 sgd. Will take about 1-2 weeks.

Then send back an email to them on tracking number for their tracking. Once received at their end, they will process. Once approved, they wil send back to your provided SG address under their cost and its very fast de, ard 2-4 days after email sent.

Above is based on my experience of RMA-ing MX100 500gb and gotten back MX200 500gb coz MX100 EOL le.
