Which asus desktop model you using?

If it did mentioned that it can support m.2 x4 pcie. then the first 2 nvme drives can be supported.

Not unless the desktop did mentioned that it can support both sata and nvme pcie. Then all 3 are able to support.

Mine is the G11CB

https://www.asus.com/sg/Tower-PCs/G11CB/

As per the URL

------------
M.2 PCIe Gen 3 x4 SSD
4 times faster than SATA3 SSD
16 times faster than SATA3 HD

The latest M.2 PCIe Gen 3 x4 SSD gives you instantaneous data access speeds of up to 2Gbit/s – four times faster than SATA SSDs. That means your system boots up faster, apps load quicker, and in-game wait times are much shorter.
------------

ASUS does not have a compatibility list and there is ZERO support.
Are there ways to find out?

Best to check their user manual. They would tell you what they can support.

Cause for m.2 slots, not all are compatible with both pcie and sata.

There is a few type of m.2 slots.

1. Pcie only
2. Sata only
3. Both supported

So check your user manual to get the info on what you can put in.

This means your desktop can support NVME ssd, which are the 1st 2 that you mentioned. It will be plugged into the pcie x1 slot via adaptor or there is a m.2 slot for it. You have to open up and take a look.

Thanks for the replies so far.

The user manual is useless as I don't seem to find anything relating to M.2.

I agree that I may need to open up and check. That said, the warranty would be void.

As can be seen on the website, I bought a machine with the feature of "M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 SSD" but, I am not able to use it without voiding the warranty. I had asked prior to buying and was assured it was ok to install other options inside. Maybe I ask too way ahead and ASUS has changed policy has changed. So would be buyers, do beware.

Now the decision is, whether to void the warranty in the believe that it can support the faster SSD. :s13:

Just wanted to say I upgrade from intel 730 ssd (sata) to Samsung 960 pro ssd (nvme, pcie gen 3.0 x4) and I think that the Samsung drive seems to be slower compared to my intel drive... (I confirmed its x4 in Samsung magician and in bios) windows 7 take abit longer to boot (dots have to reach each other compared to intel which dots didn't even meet but boot in liao), also game loading seems a tad bit slower also (tested bf4 and gta5)

Thanks for the heads up. I read something similar but guess I have to find out even more.

I am unlikely to use it a boot drive. I intend to use it as an application cache/scratch disk to see if there is improvement.
