Hi all, I am thinking about building a m-ITX computer for use in my living room and would appreciate it if I can your comments on the build.

1) Gigabyte H97N-Wifi M-ITX w Intel Core 4690
2) MSI GTX 970
3) G-Skill RipjawX 1600MHz
4) Samsung 850 EVO
5) PSU - Unsure at this point (Prefer one that is noiseless)
6) Thermaltake Core V1

1) What are you planning to do with the ITX rig?

2) Do you really need wifi? Not planning to use direct connection with router using LAN port?

im assembling one too. Asus H97i plus. a bit regret cos should buy cheaper board and use usb wifi. i thought usb wifi was bad until i tried one with decent results.

i5 4440 from my previous acer com.

im fitting my existing 750ti. i suppose itx cases have less airflow so better use low power gpu. but this V1 looks good. anyway, already ordered Corsair 250d but V1 price is solid. also looks roomy to work with.

psu go for modular one. easier to manage cables in small case. i got the cheapest i can think of, CM 520w.

u can consider liquid cooling. im using on my Air 240 setup. For this, will just use a Deepcool gabriel.

i will also fit in a dvd drive since the 250d can take one. now waiting for Mynextcom to send the case. it's taking forever though. Have fun.

Thanks for the inputs so far.

It's only for casual gaming and home entertainment. Wifi is not required as my router is right beside where I plan to place the rig. I know it's a bit of an overkill for casual gaming but decided yo go for slightly better gfx card so that I won't have to upgrade it anytime soon.

1) If you do not need wifi, no point paying so much $$$ for a mobo with integrated wifi. Get the much cheaper Asus H81i-PLUS instead, save lots of $$$.

2) Define 'casual gaming'. Name all games that you want to play with this rig.

3) You do not need the fast write speeds in the Samsung 850 Evo for gaming. Get the cheaper Crucial MX100 instead, save even more $$$.

4) State model of monitor/television that will be connected to this rig.

Ratherryou use custom intel heat sink and spend more money on good PSU.

Its an existing cooler. Anyway, CM is a decent brand. Been using Thunder for a couple months without issues n the setup is not power intensive.

Oh TS has AIO already?

Not that I doubt cooler master as a brand, but a PSU that cheap it usually not possible without a catch or two. If you have the luxury of getting an AIO, might well get better PSU first

Nope, the only thing I've bought so far is the MSI GT970 from the recent lazada sale.

For the games, I'm just using it for FM, DOTA2, CS.

Connecting it to my Sony 50W704.

What's FM? Is that a tv? the sony thing. What's the resolution. IIRC, TV has high input lag which makes it unsuitable for reaction based multiplayers?

Unless your TV is 4k or you play AAA titles, you don't need gtx 970. Maybe a 750TI or at most a 960/760.

Even at 4k r9 280/285 can run dota 2 haha. My 2cents.

mini-itx case

Bro, if you getting a new case, I would recommend the thermaltake core X1, the fan/radiator configuration is incredible even for an itx built.

up to 3x 200mm fans (1 front, 2 top) = higher CFM and less noise.

Thermaltake - Global - Core X1 - CA-1D6-00S1WN-00

I personally waiting for the X2, the m-atx version. more fans = better airflow (CFM), and better manoeuvrability over rpm = lower noise.

I suppose general use should be ok unless one needs high powered gpu and high powered uses. if not, basic psu should last for a reasonable period. my last acer dunno wat brand psu also lasted me few years. anyway, I opted for the seasonic modular in the end as mynextcom did not have stock for CM.
