Hi, has anyone experienced higher data usage shown in M1 App comparing to data usage reading in iPhone (6S)?
I have reset the mobile data usage in iPhone on the day my M1 billing started, so I was expecting the reading on both would be close to each other. However I notice that the gap between these two readings are getting bigger. Within 5 days, data usage shown on M1 App is 110 MB higher than iPhone reading. Called to M1 CS, they said iPhone mobile data only record download data and not upload. I thought it detect both upload and download data. At the end M1 CS can’t explain and only insisted that M1 App is correct and iPhone reading is inaccurate. Has anyone experienced similar situation and can share why the difference is incremental? Thanks.

Me too had been monitoring the data usage. M1 app had always been 100 mb more than iphone. I’m using ipx btw. But I’m not too concerned as long as my monthly data limit is not reach. Maybe when my next monthly bill arrived I can do a compared as which data reading is correct. Ip or m1 app.

Phone data counter is always not accurate because it doesn’t measure certain traffic..

However network data counter is the most accurate because it will only be triggered when you need data, so there’s no argument in it when it comes to dispute.

There’s a blog post somewhere that explains the difference between network data counter and phone data counter though..

Oh, I’m often hit with extra data and even when I’m not streaming video with mobile data, the data usage also close to limit. Your monthly bill will follow M1 App coz it is their App 😁

Thanks. I wonder what is the traffic that M1 tracking but not detected in iPhone? Data usage difference between the two counters is keep increasing though. Now I have >14% difference (692MB vs 809MB). Is it possible the traffic consume that much data? I tried to google on the explanation but can’t find clear answer. If you have the link to the blog, could you pls share. Thanks.

this is due to telco minimum KB block.

e.g. if you send 1 whatsapp message which maybe just 2000 bytes, then your phone disconnect from internet, you will be charged the min KB block.

Singtel - 32KB
Starhub - unknown
M1 - unknown

i have this problem too.... today is 1st of the month which is my billing cycle. even without getting out of my house and on wifi all the way... the app can show 0.01mb when the iphone didnt even go into mobile data mode. weird. iphone still shows 0.

on that note, i realised that m1 allows ad hoc add on data upsize. so i will buy data upsize when i'm nearing my limit. it doesnt prorate anyway. so i dont pay for something i dont use. better than kena the $10.70/1gb if i burst it.

But you’ll need to pay $10.70 for registration changes on top of data upsize charges

iOS native data calculator doesn't calculate data usage correctly. That's true.

I am using third party app (My Data Manager) to track my data usage, it usually is very similar to what My M1 app shows. The problem with iOS is that you must have the app running once in a while to update regularly, if not it will not be recorded.

Also, because My Data Manager doesn't know the difference of normal Sunsurf APN and IMS APN, it sometimes calculate additional ~1MB/day because of M1 VoLTE.

The 0.01MB even though you're on WiFi and data is off happens because of handover from 3G HSPA to 4G LTE, or when the phone is restarted and log onto M1 4G.

Like I said, use third party apps like My Data Manager to track. It's typically more updated than My M1 app as long as you open the app regularly. Can track the usage per day basis too. :s13:

M1 charges per 10kB block.
StarHub charges per 1kB block.

even M1 apps data also not that accurate...
check few times, just on the last day of billing for the data.. take screen shots and then compare against the bill, the billing is lesser.....
