Hi everyone,

I was away for holidays and rented a unlimited wifi device.

My roaming data was off and previously, i encountered the same issue and called M1 and they say they cancel or activate some thing to ensure that i am locked down to their network when im overseas to prevent being charged.

BUT am still being charged again this time round!

I am so pissed off. What can I do?

Can please kindly advise before i call their hotline and get a foreigner speaking to me in an accent that i can barely understand?

Did you deactivate Data Roaming VAS? You should be able to see it under the Roaming tab of the My M1 app.

Even if you disable data roaming on phone settings, small amounts of data may be "leaked" as you connect to roaming operator 4G network, which is charged as Data Roaming charge.

You should disable data on the network end so you definitely won't be charged.

I have traveled multiple times and always turn off mobile data ( not just roaming ) on my phone. Have never been charged for roaming before. User problem.

Ya phone off data roaming no use. Must turn turn off data off and on WiFi. I always do that and no roaming data charge.

Sent from Xiaomi MI MAX using GAGT

Disable the roaming at the backend by calling m1. I got this before while in HK and China even as I turned the mobile data off and data roaming. After disabling at the backend, no issue.

Ask M1 to waive off the charges

You may have VoLTE turn on?
I gotten the same issue with M1 before. Is a phone software bug. Make sure VoLTE is turn off. Some countries charge data rate if you use VoLTE to make call.

Basically, turn off all data related functionality when you want to avoid accidental data charges when overseas

that isn't helpful if you have roaming data plan for use...

For me, I turn on everything even roaming but just to ensure the phone sticks to the partner telco in that country. After that, VoLTE enable or not, chargeable or not doesn't matter, cos everything counts as one under roaming data plan..

I have the same issue. This is pretty ridiculous to be honest. I do not need to unsubscribe from data roaming for the other telcos when I travel. (Just making sure that data roaming is off on phone). Only M1 is special.
