M1 Mobile Broadband - Speed Throttle

Hey Guys,

Anyone had experience M1 mobile broadband speed throttling after hitting the excess capped data charges?

Apparently, M1 has a rule that allows them to significantly throttle your Internet speed. The clause indicated is called "Traffic Management". Based on this, M1 claims they have the authority to throttle for other users to have a better Internet experience.

Is this legally right? Because when we signed-up for the service, no M1 sale or service staff told us this upfront and I do not see it in the contract.

yup, m1 does it. 2 csos even specifically said that even if I was paying for the extra after the bundled data, the speed will still be throttled. that's why I jumped over to starhub even though I still had a few months contract left with m1, I was more than happy to pay the penalty for early termination with m1 which was just crippling me.

All telco same one. Last time I Tio throttle badly also using Starhub. Only average 200k~300kbps speed.

yup, m1 does it. 2 csos even specifically said that even if I was paying for the extra after the bundled data, the speed will still be throttled. that's why I jumped over to starhub even though I still had a few months contract left with m1, I was more than happy to pay the penalty for early termination with m1 which was just crippling me.

Ahh so it is not just M1 but all telco have such a policy. They should have been more upfront with this. I mean I had a planned video-conf session and because of the sudden throttle I had to find last minute alternatives.

Furthermore, what is the threshold when we as consumers get throttled? This needs to be clearer so at least we can plan for alternative options.

This whole episode just leaves a very bad taste in the mouth with M1.

Just a quick note to consumers who are not aware and to consider when using mobile broadband.

M1 have the right to throttle your mobile broadband speed at their own discretion. According to M1, all they need is to identify if there is a sudden surge in data usage based on current month vs previous month data records, they have the right to immediately throttle your Internet speed without prior warning.

no, this clause was added in on their own. wonder why we sign contract for since they can anyhow change the terms and conditions.

Anyone using unlimited M1 mobile broadband? Did you notice M1 throttle the speed to 0.5 Mbps after you reached a certain usage each day? Previously they throttle only to 1Mbps.
