M2 SSD on desktop?

You need a modern motherboard with m.2 or you can get m.2 pci-e adapter.

my mother board ( on the right ) is not modern ..

if i get a adapter will there be a performance issues?

M.2 using sata interface should perform similar to normal sata ssd. You need to get m.2 ssd using pcie interface to utilize the faster bus speed.

Take note day to day usage maybe you can't feel the speed boost. Large file transfers may show improvement.

Yes, that's one thing to take note of when buying the SSD also. M.2 is simply the physical port / interface. There are M.2 NMVe (pci-e based) and M.2 SATA (which will perform same as SATA3).

Adapter no problem, if you have enough PCI-E lanes

erm if u are talking about NVM-e, then u need at least PCI-E 3.0 to enjoy the full speed benefits.....
for your case suggest against getting NVM-e m.2 based ssd as i think ur setup lack of PCI-E lanes
