So was thinking to upgrade ram(2x4gb or 2x8gb) but not sure what kind of ram and where can get cheapest price.

Any suggestion ?

Depend on what sort of programs u are running?
Do you use a lot of Video editing?
if yes, 8Gb x 2 will be a good choice.

else go for 4Gb x 2.

Max out if you have the budget.

Should post in Apple Clinic instead? :) http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/apple-clinic-5/

Anyway, specs from apple:

Mac mini (Late 2012): Memory specifications and upgrades
Learn which kinds of memory to use with your Mac mini (Late 2012) and Mac mini server (Late 2012).

Mac mini (Late 2012) and Mac mini server (Late 2012) computers have two internal memory slots. These slots accept standard PC3-12800 DDR3 204-pin SO-DIMMs (Small Outline DIMM) with the following specifications:
PC3-12800 DDR3
Unbuffered
Non-parity
204-pin module
1600 MHz
You can use RAM module sizes of 2 GB, 4 GB or 8 GB in each slot. For best performance, don't mix sizes of memory modules. Install two identical memory modules.
DIMMs with the following features will not work:
Registers or buffers
PLLs
ECC
Parity
EDO RAM

understand that it used notebook ram, but is it all compatible? heard mac is a little bit picky when it comes to ram.

As long as you follow the exact specs listed on apple.com, it should be compatible. If you scared, you can buy ram that is sold as 'mac-compatible' with some markup, but technically don't need as long as you follow exact Apple specs. You can also google for reviews to see if other people had issues with it on their macs. Gotta do some homework :)

hello i have a late 2012 mac mini upgraded to 2 x 8GB

got my RAM from Laser at SLS, brand is Crucial but there is a specific branding/label on it that it is Mac compatible

Whilst I think sometimes these stuff can be marketing gimmicks, was also slightly concerned about the compatibility point so went for these mac branded RAM; i think they just $2 more than a regular non-Mac label ones

hope this helps, cheers

Good to know! If it's just $2 diff I would get it too.

When I was upgraded my mbp a few years back, the price differential was a lot more significant. Like 20-30% more.

do you remember how much you paid for it ?

Tip, when someone recommend a shop, just google their pricelist to check prices. Skyline34 recommended Laser Distributor Pte Ltd, so :)

Lol, looks like the differential is still there ($68 vs $52), costs 30% more.
