Mac OS Sierra: Java not prompting when there are updates

I have selected the option to prompt when there are updates yet Java never prompts me. So from time to time I have to go and check. Anyone else have this problem or am I configuring something wrongly? No issues with Adobe Flash that one always prompts me when there are updates.

Same here, but never really care if it's outdated too

according to this article, it only checks when u launch Java apps or e Java control panel. it's not running in e background per say...
