MacBook Air Flash Storage Drive Replacement Program

Anybody affected by this and has sent your MBA for the replacement yet?

I am currently working in Thailand and can't update to Mavericks because of this flashdrive problem.

Would like to know what is the replacement process like?

Yes, I just did this evening after the SSD in my MBA failed.

I brought the laptop to QCD and explained the problem to the CSO, after which she ran some diagnostics to verify the issue. Once it was verified, she told me that the SSD will be replaced FOC (even though my warranty has already expired and that I didn't purchase AppleCare) and the turnaround time is about 3-5 working days.

what are the risks that i will lose all my data in my MBA?

Yea, thankfully I've another laptop that I can use.

I'd advise you to backup all your data ASAP 'cos the SSD in my MBA failed without any prior warning.

Just sent my MBA in today.. Was told 7-10 days!!!

i asked the guy how come it takes so long (7-10 days)
he told me that it's because they gotta wait for the parts to ship over from.... Singapore -.-

unfortunately that's my only machine (apart from my iphone 5 and iphone 3gs that're with me now)

currently typing this from the shared computer terminal in my office

I see. That explains the discrepancy in the turnaround time.

Guess you've to somehow make do with your iPhones for the time being when you're out of office then.

Some bad news. Just got a call from Apple Service Centre this afternoon informing me that there's no replacement SSD currently available. They have no idea when the stock is coming in but the minimum wait would be 2 weeks.

I think you should get a replacement machine for your needs in the meantime.

If it takes 2 weeks to ship to SG, and I still have to wait for the shipment to arrive to Thailand from SG!!!

dont they ship direct to Thailand? still need to enroute to SG? international warranty isnt it? the service center at Thailand should handle the thing like handling thailand sets

I tried following the instructions as per this official link on a MBA, but couldn't find a "MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1" in the Updates section (or even when I search for this 'app' manually in the store, for that matter).

Any suggestions? Think the MBA I tried this on, is the 2nd-latest model, bought last year I think. Running Snow Leopard.

At least that's what the guy at the service centre told me...

Actually fellows, may I know how do I verify my MBA is the appropriate model that falls under this issue? Is there anywhere on the Mac that I can retrieve a generation no., e.g. '2012 model'?

This issue affects some mid-2012 MBAs with 64GB and 128GB configurations.

Apple just called me today...

So after my MacBook Air has been sitting in their service centre for the past 11 days, today they called me to update me that...

They're currently out of stock for SSD flashdrives and have no idea when will my MBA be ready

it seems like the SSD problem affected my MBA 2011 too. i had it replaced in Sept.

woah thats good news for those users who do not have apple care! fortunately i have my applecare thanks for the info though!
