Well mine is 15" Early 2011 MBP and yes I had the issue and had the logic board replaced. It's kinda big issue however Apple does not claim it's any manufacturing fault and insists customers pay for the repairs if it's OOW. If you're lucky, you may get a repair exception

it's okay but I'm getting graphic issue running in os x 10.10 beta. system freezes in login window with spinning beach ball, only way to force shut down. safe mode works okay and no issues if I turn on Automatic login.

I hope that's just a software glitch and will be fix in future updates.

My 17" late 2011 MacBook Pro broke down last month while it was idling. Screen turn grey and was force to shut down. Turn on again with pink and grey strip showing Apple logo then the whole screen turn grey and crashed. Safe boot and nvram/pvram reset also did not help. Really disappointed as this is my main computer. Have thought of bringing it for repair but not happy to pay for repair after spending so much money and it only last me less than 3 years.

Saw report on macrumors that lawyers in US is researching possible class action lawsuit over this issue. So there might just be hope. I shall wait and see.

Hi, did you get your logic board replace for free? If not how much did you pay for the replacement?

I just got my MacBook Pro back from QCD. It was still under AppleCare so they replaced my logic board for free. However, I asked how much it would cost to replace it once my warranty is over and I was quoted $900.

Yes it was free, I did not have AppleCare Protection plan on it and it was 2 years OOW

Must have good negotiation skills, just be cooperative and be nice to the senior advisor you are speaking to and hope he will return you the favor. hehe...

And if you do get an exception and Apple sent you a survey request, be sure to return back the favor because the advisor's KPI relies on that.

Being demanding does not help because the advisor might think that even if he/she grant an exception, you will still send a bad feedback and they rather not give an exception.

funny enough mine did crash too. i didnt expect it to be a widespread problem. so is there a recall or such so far? i've brought mine down to the genius bar and the quoted me 650AUD for the repair which i havent decided on yet.

Damn! That is expensive. Have never bought Apple care since I started using Macbook pro because I always felt they were reliable machines. I'm now using my 2010 Macbook Air as my spare machine and I have not encounter any problem so far. Even my 15" 2010 Macbook pro is still functioning. Due to my work nature, I'm really missing my 17" mbp. I will try to bring in for them to check.

repaired mine back in May with this issue. mbp 15" early 2011. yeap its a known issue, applecare is worth investing.

plaza sing, they see the symptoms straight away know whats wrong, replace the logic board. i got it fixed few days before my applecare ends. anyway service there is good for me, i dint ask for battery change, they change new battery and run check thoroughly just because my warranty is ending (i dont know how thorough was that though)

The service providers don't usually replace parts that passed the hardware diagnostic tests.
This is because when they return the KBB(Known Bad Board) back to Apple and if it was checked as no fault found, the service providers will not be able to claim it as part of warranty(which means they have to pay for the parts). In this situation, they will usually send a request back to apple to request for an exception to do a force replacement however the chances for this is very slim.

im another victim of such failure. Had the logic board replaced once while i still had a few weeks of apple care left. Had the prob again last night and realised it was a common issue throughout the whole world.

Any updates locally abt getting cheaper fixes anywhere?

Has it been more than 3 months since the logic board was replaced? I think it comes with 3 months part warranty.

thanks, had a quick check and it stated that i sent it in during the month of May. no luck i guess
