Drop a call to AppleCare and see if they can offer an exception.
You need to speak to a senior advisor and he/she will decide. If he/she denies your request, offer to split the cost like you pay for labor fee and Apple cover the parts
The cost of the logic board is the killer, labor fee probably cost less than $200
I assume you bought the AppleCare Protection Plan previously - that can be used as a reason for the exception.
