Am using windows since 3.1

Always considering apple when it's time to upgrade computer or buy another laptop

And always choose windows becoz Apple is always so much re ex

even now, when windows8 or 8.1 is so disappointing and still using win7 and win10 announced, really considering hard to get MacBook pro

But think of the more investment and time needed to convert files etc to Apple, sian

.at this stage, not keen to spend hours and hours to front hard drive etc so that they work with apple

So, back to square one, hanging on to win7 until computer breaks down

I share the same sentiments with u when it comes to costs,MacBooks r very ex,even the 'cheapest' base model the storage is quite low. Wad do u mainly use ur laptop for? I feel if its using for pdf files,ms word,excel and also diff video files many programs r available for mac like vlc player etc. The reason y I considered macs is due to the gd reviews many ppl have,long batt life,easy to use user interface for macs. Win 8.1 is quite hard to use,im using my old laptop till it breaks down n its unusable anymore,nw its 5yrs already. If i were to gt retina mbp,will gt the base model with external hdd.(maybe 500gb or 1tb)

Does the non retina mbp have similar processor to the retina mbp? I know the retina one is slightly faster than non retina on specs. Was thinking get non retina from apple education store,after that self upgrade on my own. Saw videos of ppl adding another ssd into the mbp n replaced the disc drive with ssd. M still considering my options.

Yes using for standard computer items eg word, excel. Photo editing, surging Internet, watch some videos

Main worry is having to spend money on software so that windows based items can run on apple

Apple sales say need to reformat external hard disk to fat32, then can run on apple, if not, latest format may not be compatible

NowadYs rally no time to do such things becoz have way too many files to covert

But win81 its so irritating that we jay just dump it altogether

So we will see

I bought mac for long battery life. I don't even bring the battery adaptor to school, and if I need, just borrow from your friends haha.

SSD is really fast. I am on 128gb and its left with 30gb only. maybe gotta shift my parallels to my ext harddisk

Thanks! I will wait till as long as my laptop can hold out until it completely breaks down. Hopefully it can last another 1-2more yrs

Sometimes looking at such threads, I can't help to smile over it. You know why ? Nowadays people asking about changing to a new operating system is like making a choice between life and death, or changing their surname or changing religion.

Lets get some facts discussed here.
1) You are already at least a decade LATE. Since Mac OS X 10.0 is launched, compatibility problems have long been solved. There are so many same companies products found in both Mac and Windows and even Linux. If not, there are equivalents out there already
2) Mac OS X has been used by people from all levels, professionals, students, teachers, house-wives, kids even senior citizens. Especially for professionals, from all over the industries regardless you are in IT, Business, Health Care, F&B, you name it. You will find someone from such industry using Mac OS X. Did any of us chosen Mac OS X and decided to leave Earth and not interoperate with existing systems using Windows ? If we didn't, then what do you think your chance of having any problem is ?
3) Just because you have chosen a Mac hardware, doesn't mean you can't run Windows inside it. Granted if you like to have the native speed of Windows, go do it. If you are just interested in having Windows running inside a VM in Mac, get VMWare Fusion or Parallels or even the freely available VirtualBox. Who says using Mac OS X must abandon Windows ? Is it slower as a VM, yes it is. My question is how much slower ? 10%, 20% ? Can you live with it. What software are you using in the Windows that requires 100% speed of a hardware ? Compared to a Windows laptop 10, 20% slower than your new Mac hardware, are you faster or slower ?
4) I have read and write exFAT, NTFS, FAT32, EXT2/3/4 all inside a Mac machine before. Question is whether you know how or not How whether it can be done. I still have my thumbdrive formatted in NTFS because I often have to exchange it with business partners using Windows.

Just use with an open heart and you will never be wrong. If Windows stop selling today, would it means no more computing for you ? That's how things works. Think too much and you will forever be stuck at where you are. It's called 'Inertia to Change"

I think the only concern is the price of the product here. If you don't think you would benefit by paying more, just stick to windows, bro. So many information provided in both threads.

I don't think the answer is that simple. There are people like me who got a OS X and more productive in our workflow. Question is, if all you see is just an island, would you know that there is a whole new world outside ? The physical attractiveness of Mac hardware is just one aspect of the product. There is a whole new world that Windows end-users are not aware of about a Unix system.

If you have been a Linux user, and you got bog down with a lousy user-interface, you will know what it means to have the beauty of both a well designed UI and powerful innards of a Unix system.

Of course, who should be aware of such beauty ? How should these beauties be appreciated ? It differs from one to another. There is no absolute measurement to it.

But what we see here is not involvement, it's speculation at its best about something they are not familiar with, then decide at whether one should or should not open the door. That's the most silly thing one can make in such situation.

We are not asking anyone here to try drugs or go into gambling. We are asking you to sit behind the wheels of a car, take a test drive and really appreciate the feeling of getting into one and then learn the ropes of handling the characteristics of a new system.

I wonder at the end of the day, a century on earth and all you have exposed to is one single operating system when the world is such a fascinated place with different operating systems. What does it mean to your life, that you have been a faithful operating system end-user ? So you vowed to only live with one spouse, and you apply it to your operating system ? So they must be equivalent in values I suppose.

comes with apple 1 year warranty + new body. Works fine, just that it won't be the latest model

Getting it from US store means you need to use something like vPost. I would be worried if my packaging arrives safely plus the shipping cost won't be as cheap and you need to declare custom tax as well since the product value is more than $400.

Furthermore if you're getting it from US store, the 14days return period does not apply when the product is in Singapore unless you are going to ship it back to the US for the return.

Shipping will take awhile as well, SG store should ship to you in a 2-3 days latest.

I don't know if the hassle and risks is worth the savings you will get when buying it from the US Store.

I usually get refurbished mac stuff, 1 generation back also so it becomes more affordable to me.
Must c heng suay on the quality, I got a 27" imac sent in for service 6 times over 3 yrs then another 24" imac working fine for 4+ years until the hdd die.
Just remember to get applecare for it, just like buying insurance. If nothing goes wrong, apple win. If somethings goes wrong then u will start to break even.
