Macbook Pro Retina 15" Disaster

Oh well. Today i stumbled upon an issue regarding rMBP.

Apparently, Apple has discourage the use of palm guard protectors as it will damage your screen.

Apple has warned against the usage here: MacBook Pro with Retina display: Do not use palm rest covers

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013), MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012), MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)

Symptoms
Leaving palm rest covers or other material on the palm rest surface of your computer could result in damage to the display when you close it.

Resolution
To enable thin design, the clearance between the display and the palm rest area is engineered to tight tolerances. Do not use palm rest covers as the added thickness may interfere with the designed resting position of the display.

As a best practice, keep the palm rest clear of any material.

When i bought my MBP few months back, the manager told me all the good things, saying freebies very good, i give you the best one around. Well, it might not be.

It's really hard to remove. Almost pulling the whole machine apart. Not exaggerating.

I managed to clear all up but i really discourage against the usage of palm guard. Not much help.

I went on to remove the screen protector they gave, they claimed it's super HD or what, but after removing, it looks perfect. No more camera hole bubble which i find it ugly. And it's cleaner.

The keyboard protector they gave me caused me to type so awkwardly. It just don't feel right. After removing, i love touching the keyboard much much more. Although it will get dirty la. haha

Just sharing my personal experience. Could have gotten from online store with my poly student card for more discount instead. Well.

Enjoy my mbp. What's done is done.

P.S. If you are like me, please get the 16GB RAM. The manager tell me those who gotten the 16GB, their mbp hot and overheating, all go back exchange to 8GB. I actually believed that.

ya last time always buy online. i went to shop to buy on a little impulse. apple online i return imac before still can after a week, retail shop once bought, they try their best don't let u return one... that time 2nd day i regret not having 16gb, although i probably won't use so much but who knows. i was told cannot.

I'm using the Radtech Notebook ScreenSavrz for my rMBP. Had a wrist rest but it didn't last a week, as I noticed it pushed against the screen so I promptly ripped it off. I'm surprised you didn't notice it pushing though - when you close it, it's pretty obvious.

yeah. it was my 3rd time switching on the rmbp. bought it 2months ago. was busy in NS, extras and duties so weekend only use iPad at most. now school starting, when i use more of the rmbp then i notice it's protruding and it just don't feel right.

i think i know what you meant, after i saw the comment online, i went on to check the palm guard. that's what made me decide to peel it off.

they claim it's so thin and perfect fit. boast they pasted it flawlessly that you won't notice it's there. and the stuff i'm facing shouldn't have happened, and then telling me i should use thinner showing me a picture of it from their shop. gosh.

telling me customers go back to them to replace palm guard without any problems.

googling tells me, those thinner spoils aluminium.

it's a beautiful machine though, it's so light that when i twist away the charging pin, the mbp moves with it.

totally agree with you, a mbp without any accessories is simply a stunning art piece.the only accessory i have on mine now is a piece of screen protector. always felt the palm rest protector is bs, it is alum body man, any stains will be cleaned easily and it will not oxidise like plastics.

yeah, i started with Isopropyl alcohol too. Last time left over from my custom made PC era. The sticky stuff was too sticky, end up need to use oil base like lighter fluid.

After that i use the rubbing alcohol to clean everything up. Works great.

Woah that seems really bad. I haven't take out my palm protector yet but i bought it separately from Moshi. So it might be the brand they give, i see mostly they give is iWorld if i am not wrong.

this is one reason why apple should open an official store here.

anyway i think there is no need for palm guard or anything unless you are using a watch.
mac are way easier to maintain as compared to other laptops.

what brand are you using? i'm using Moshi and i hope it would be good. The sales staff trying to hardsell me an unknown brand but i refuse to get it even though its way much cheaper than the moshi brand. Since i've been using moshi on my 2008 pro and didnt give me any problems.

Don't think there is any need for a palmguard bah. Unless of course you are the type that always snacks/eats while using your laptop. Then definitely need palmguard, keyboard guard, screen protector, casing, etc.
