Hi All,

My Macbook Pro is running out of disk space due to MP3 and photos. Was thinking of changing the HD myself.

Wanted to know:

Does anyone change the HD themself before? Is it hard to change?
I had use time machine to backup my macbook pro to my external HD. Can i know if i change to a new HD in my macbook pro, do i need to reinstalled the OS? Or i can use the external HD to load everythings back to the new HD in my macbook pro by using time machine?

You'll need to reinstall the operating system before you can migrate the data from the time machine backup.

don't have to go through a clean install of OS X, if you make a bootable copy on your new HDD prior to installation on your MBP.

to make a bootable copy on your new HDD, can use either of the following softwares: Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!.

U got to have the special screw driver to release the screw head on the hard disk.. U can check the screw driver type on ifix.com & buy from simlim or Funan.

I swapped twice because I ran out of space. It is not that difficult. Check the above video for instruction.

But for the backing up, I would mount the new drive into an external casing and use Disk Utility's Restore feature to duplicate the entire content of the primary drive to the new drive.

why dont just use external hard disk store your media files? Easier than have to keep swap hdd to access different files right?
