Gonna use for work/email/social media and some photo editing

Which should I get?

The basic Macbook Air is more than enough to last you 2-3 years.

If not playing games that need intensive resources, I will go for 13 MacBook Air will 8gb ram.

Once you go into video editing territory, I suggest going for the Retina Macbook Pro. Unless you're doing very short, simple video editing using iMovie, then regular Macbook Air/ new Macbook should suffice.

Yeah usually simple edit only but mostly do photo edit

I see, so since there's video editing involved, I recommend Macbook Air over the regular Macbook because even entry level Macbook Airs have 1.6GHz Dual core processors, which is faster than the 1.2GHz processors in the Macbook. Of course if you have the extra cash you can always bump the performance by choosing the 2.2GHz ones.

Also, with the Macbook Air, there are more ports.

How about macbook pro recommended since they have retina or not needed? Video editing might become priority in future but not much for now

Ok, if you're getting a Macbook Pro, it is good since you don't have to buy another laptop to accommodate your video editing priorities in the future. The retina display allow you to see more detail into your projects and you can make adjustments better. The viewing pleasure is much better too. Lastly, since the Macbook Pro is thicker and bigger than the Macbook Air, you'll expect greater battery life, more I/O ports, and more power for your needs.

It is good to compare all the specs before you proceed, sometimes two Apple products have the same price but different specs*. Like for example, a high end 13 inch Retina Macbook Pro is more expensive than a 15 inch Macbook Pro with QUAD core processor instead of a dual-core processor in the 13 inch.

Quad core processors are better for multitasking and for programs that do multiple things at once (like video editing).

Thank you so much for the reply, I was hoping to get the highest spec off their website without changing stuff.

The dedicated gfx card seems like it would really help later on =) not sure if the extra bulk and weight is manageable if bringing it around though. And also, if I were to consider getting an iPad Pro also with their full accessories, it seems pointless to go for the 13 inch mbp.

But if you were to compare a 2010 Macbook Pro (which I have), it will be much lighter, thinner, and faster. In my school days, I'll just shove one in my crumpler bags and it'll be good.

IPad Pro? Biggest mistake. It has no I/O ports and not powerful enough. Given the pace of technology, 4K resolution will be as mainstream as 1080p in a few years' time, I doubt your iPad Pro will catch up.

I was thinking for creativity and design use its good and for my drawings also. =) but one thing is I could probably get a wacom tablet and work on it instead just that it would be less portable. What do you think? And I don't really enjoy how they make the 128gb lte only.

Then you have to weigh in what you want more. You want portability, go for the iPad Pro. You want more space, you go for the Wacom and laptop combination. If you go for the iPad Pro, you may not have the power to do video/photo editing, and it is a hassle to transfer files.

For the Macbook combined with a Wacom tablet, you get an all-in-one device. May not be as portable as an iPad Pro, but you can still do it anywhere.
