Hi I was on the speedtest.net site and clicked on something that started installing mackeeper

The installation cannot seem to complete and I can't stop it and I can't restart my machine even if I try force quit

Any tips on what the problem is and what I can do to remove it?

According to the Apple support page, Mackeeper is malware and should not be installed...

A little concerned now :(

thanks

Mackeeper is a malware you should avoid.
I did try removing from one of my customer but unsuccessful end up redoing her Mac book air. Her Mac is so slow.
But I will suggest that you try google the remover instruction, then see if you haven any side effect on my Mac 1st. Cause usually osx don't really get effected very well.

The man behind thesafemac.com have created a detailed article about MacKeeper, have a read HERE.

Detailed uninstallation steps can be found how to uninstall MacKeeper – updated |

this is the best guide so far as it includes checks to system locations just in case the uninstall did not do it properly.

Also you can run Adware Medic to clear off any adwares that might have infected your system.

There is also an official Apple Support article that talks about how to remove the more common adware
