As in the title, has anyone here tried to make money through those distributed computing networks. That is, using rig idle time?
If so, can share experiences and recommendations? My rig has a lot of idle time and I would like to make use of it if I can.
Highly untested business model.
From my IT and business analysis, the only one that's going to make money is the service provider company, that's providing this service to SMEs and paying you for the CPU power.
Why?
The service provider company gets a monthly fee for providing this service to their clients, which are the SMEs and use part of the monthly fee to pay you. They'll be profitable as long as they got clients and enough people to provide the CPU power.
The SME pays monthly fee the service provider company, which they will save a little in the short run, but more expensive in the long run. So in the long-run, they are most likely to leave and have their own CPU power.
You get paid from the CPU power you provided, which you see cash coming in immediately, but your electricity bill will skyrocket and your receivable may not cover the bill. Not to mention that your computer will has a shorter lifespan.
If you ask me... I say you have the worst deal of them all. May look good upfront, but hidden cost is on you.
