Sven is tops for Wenger
By GORDON SMART
August 24, 2007
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on Sven Goran Eriksson and backed his stance of snubbing British players in the transfer market.
The pair will face each other for the first time in the Premier League tomorrow when the Swede takes his table-toppers to the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger has also always refused to be held to ransom over inflated asking prices for our home-based stars.
The Frenchman said: “Top-class English players simply aren’t available.
“When you talk about top-class English players you talk about Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Wayne Rooney — they are all at big clubs who do not need to sell.
“So then if you want to buy that equivalent international quality, you go for someone like Elano for six or seven million — you could not get an equivalent English player for that much.
“I’m sure Eriksson will be a success, he is a great manager.
“You could talk about Man City for half an hour and still not cover all their new signings. They have bought very well.”
Thai to join City
Suree to become first Thai in Premier League
By Andrew Scurr Last updated: 30th August 2007
Thailand international defender Suree Sukha is set to join Manchester City.
Suree was one of three Thai players invited for a two-week trial at City by new owner Thaksin Shinawatra last month.
Kiatprawut Saiwaeo and Teerasil Dangda also linked up with Sven Goran Eriksson's side.
Suree impressed the most out of the three players and was chosen to join City on a permanent deal.
"Suree will be the first Thai player to play in the Premier League," Shinawatra's lawyer, Noppadon Pattama, announced.
"His work permit is now being processed."
Preview: City v Aston Villa

CITY defender Richard Dunne will miss the Barclays Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday as he is suspended.
Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has indicated that Vedran Corluka will partner Micah Richards in Dunne's absence with Nedum Onuoha likely to return at right-back.
Brazilian midfielder Geovanni is expected to be available after returning to training following a calf injury but Michael Johnson is struggling to recover from a groin injury.
Aston Villa’s new signing Curtis Davies is included in the squad for Sunday’s game.
Davies, initially signed on loan from West Brom, missed the victory over Chelsea a fortnight ago with a hamstring problem.
Striker John Carew is the only injury concern after aggravating a groin injury while on duty for Norway in midweek.
Villa manager Martin O’Neill admits Carew would have struggled to play the City game had it been on Saturday but is hoping the additional 24 hours will allow him time to recover.
