Smalling, Blind, Rojo, and Shaw are International class defenders, what they need is protection from the midfield. With the right coaching they can be really good. First thing he will buy is two CM to anchor the midfield.

Rojo may be an international...but far from classy. Rafael has far more ability than him. At least Heinze was a warrior, even if he was found wanting at times.

Among the current available senior players, I would play Blind in that left fullback role.

But thats Mourinhos style of play. His teams are built around defence first and then counter attack. Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Madrid.

Haha, I think he should just buy a decent centre back to partner Smalling cos United can't seem to produce a centre back from their academy. Return Blind to his DMF position to compete with Schneiderlin and Carrick. Fosu-Mensah should be a right back with his speed and offensive ability.

I personally hope Jose only buy 2 players (** and FW). Ibrahimovic consider done deal? Not putting so much hope on him just need his experience and influence to get younger players in the squad.

Actually you dont need world class defenders to park the bus, just get 10 men behind the ball and hold your positions. Liverpool's title challenge a few years back lost momentum because of a Mourinho "masterclass". Iirc, that chelsea XI was made up of reserves and squad players.

Anyway, you man utd fans can dream all you want, but I think jose lost his mojo and his marbles last season. First sign of trouble, watch out the media will be after his throat and he will fall under the strain and pressure :D

Jose Mourinho & Manchester United agree manager deal

Talks between Jose Mourinho and Manchester United have lasted three days

A deal has been agreed for Jose Mourinho to become Manchester United's new manager, after three days of talks.

Negotiations between Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes and senior United officials have concluded, although no contract has been signed.

An official announcement from the club is expected on Friday.

The Portuguese will replace Dutchman Louis van Gaal, who was sacked on Monday, two days after United won the FA Cup.

The BBC reported on Saturday, within an hour of United's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, that Van Gaal would be sacked and Mourinho was set to replace him.

Discussions, which started on Tuesday and were delayed by negotiations over Mourinho's image rights, finally finished on Thursday.

The 53-year-old is likely to sign a three-year contract.

Mourinho's appointment has been backed by some former United players, including former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and Hull City boss Steve Bruce.

And on Thursday, ex-defender Rio Ferdinand praised the 53-year-old former Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss.

"I have heard many say the 'Mourinho way' is not the Manchester United style of playing football," the 37-year-old former England skipper wrote on his Facebook page.

"However, the Chelsea team that Jose put together first time round when he entered the Premier League played with wingers and hurt teams with quick attacking play.

"This is a sign he knows how to get a team playing in a way Manchester United fans can look forward to seeing."

He added: "One thing I can tell Manchester United fans is that they have got themselves a true winner in all aspects. His CV shows success."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who United are interested in bringing to Old Trafford, potentially as Mourinho's first signing, said his former boss was "the man to bring them [United] back to the top".

Meanwhile, in an interview for BBC's World Football programme to be broadcast on Friday, ex-Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti joked that United might start "selling tickets" for news conferences as a result of the arrival of Mourinho.

And Chelsea's former director of football operations, Mike Forde, also told the programme that the Portuguese's move to Old Trafford was a "marriage of convenience".

Football: Jose Mourinho agrees to become Man United manager under 3-year contract at ÂŁ10 million per season, say reports

Jose Mourinho arrives back at his home in central London on May 26, 2016.
LONDON (AFP) – Jose Mourinho has agreed to become the new manager of Manchester United, according to British media reports on Thursday (May 26).

Mourinho has been in negotiations with United since Louis van Gaal’s sacking on Monday and it is understood an agreement is now in place for the former Chelsea manager to take charge at Old Trafford.

The 53-year-old is reportedly yet to sign a contract, but official confirmation from United is expected by Friday after the deal was delayed due to discussions over Mourinho’s image rights.

Mourinho is said to have been offered a three-year contract that will pay him ÂŁ10 million (S$20 million) per season, which is double the salary earned by Van Gaal during his troubled two-year reign.

It was also reported Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea in December, is set to be given bonuses that will pay ÂŁ5 million and ÂŁ2.5 million respectively if he leads United to the Champions League or Premier League title.

It emerged Chelsea had owned Mourinho’s name as a trademark since 2005 and could demand a six-figure sum from United before his new club were able to use it to sell merchandise such as toiletries, technology, clothing and jewellery.

There was also a potential conflict between Mourinho’s personal deals and United’s own sponsors because the Portuguese coach has contracts with Jaguar and Hublot Watches, while United’s shirts sponsors are Chevrolet and they also have an arrangement with watchmaker Bulova.

But talks between Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes and United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward are believed to have resolved those problems and look to have paved the way for the controversial and charismatic boss to fulfil his long-held dream of managing the Manchester giants.

Mourinho was seen strolling back to his town house in the upmarket London district of Belgravia wearing a smart black suit and clutching documents on Thursday and soon after those images emerged it was reported he had agreed the deal.

Assuming there is no last minute hitch, the former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Porto boss will take charge of United for the first time when the club face Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on July 22 on the first leg of two-game tour of China.

However, Mourinho should appear on the home bench at Old Trafford before then because he is due to take charge of an England XI in a charity game for Unicef against a Rest of the World XI on June 5.

Fittingly, Mourinho seems to have sealed his United move on the same date he won his first Champions League title with Porto in 2004.

It was also the day United won the treble under Alex Ferguson in 1999 and the day the club’s legendary former manager Matt Busby was born in 1909.

Hopefully he is smart & aware enough to have taken the pre-appointment criticisms on board.

It may mean more chances for the academy youngsters & classier behaviour from the manager befitting the club's image. :s12: :s12:

Yes, Shaw would be the first-choice left-back for years & years. Of the current fit players, Blind should deputise. But the season is over anyhow...

There is an urgent need to sign a commanding/composed centre-back! :flash:
