I downloaded "Baidu Map" from Google Play Store (should be available in Apple Store as well).

Tried google in GZ last week and didn't worked well.... can't find quite a few places though it indicated the

Baidu and 高德 maps worked well for me. I used 高德 app to arrange for a cab with a local mobile number.

There's taxi service in app too. Detailed info and data can be saved if linked to WeChat.

So i assume you use Google map with foreign sim card on data roam.

Not sure if Google can plot a route, but it can locate the local address on the map right?

I used google map with no problem in China.

This is more reliable than Baidu. I have both on my phone to compare. Amap seems more accurate to me

Yup, that's what the Chinese are using locally.

Last time Baidu Map app seemed to be more popular. But indeed 高德 Map seems to get more and more popular now. Anyway, both are popular.

I find people using the taxi service from within 高德 Map now. Didi was most often used last time. People still use DiDi (and it is still popular) but now I can see more and more people using the Taxi services from within 高德 Map app.

BTW, it is a bit easier to use Alipay with the taxi services within 高德 Map app as both belong to Alibaba, but indeed you can use Wechat pay as well if you prefer.

Yes, integrated so people's habit started to change, more so with incentives for AMap's taxi service.
Baidu seems clunky imo, though there's street view which is pretty useful.

高德 map can also do 购团 where I can buy a "Groupon"set meal from a restaurant (sometimes at half price) and make a reservation with them.
