I am starting this new thread, to avoid derailing the other thread which is for Mari Invest.

In the news: (key extracts from ST)

Sea-owned MariBank is rolling out child accounts and global stock trading targeted at customers aged 16 to 28, as it looks to capture a growing base of digitally savvy youth.

About 30 per cent of MariBank customers have a Mari Invest account, with one in four Mari Invest customers in their 20s – highlighting growing interest in investing among younger customers.

$100,000 deposit cap lifted

MariBank confirmed it lifted the $100,000 individual deposit cap on its Mari Savings accounts in April to address user dissatisfaction and enhance the overall banking experience.

Huo said the ShopeeVIP partnership was the main driver of the bank’s deposit growth, with 18% of MariBank users being ShopeeVIP users as well. MariBank’s customer deposits rose from $1.54 billion in 2024 to $2.82 billion by 2025.

Within one month of the ShopeeVIP partnership launch in July, users who claimed the ShopeeVIP bonus interest rates doubled their balances.

For reference, the 6 month T-bill is running about 1.88% currently. It's available every 2 weeks with unlimited placements, and it's backed by the full faith and credit of the Government of Singapore. The next auction is October 22, 2026, with a typical order deadline of 9 PM on October 21.

Pls get yourself updated on the current promo rates!

Go to Deposits Thread to find out which banks are paying at least 2%pa for 6mth FD!

Go to the 2 Tbills related thread to understand the real EIR for Tbills!

Pls do not derail this thread, discuss in the respective dedicated threads where comparisons are made!

Sure, by all means. That's what "for reference" implies.

That's the issue with 'for reference' posting without understanding the product mechanics:

1. Fact Check: The latest clearing yield printed at 1.90%, not 1.88%.

2. T-bill Yields are NOT Guaranteed: The Oct 22 auction hasn't cleared. Quoting past cut-offs as a proxy ignores auction volatility, whereas bank FDs guarantee your exact rate upfront upon placement.

3. True EIR Erosion: Raw cut-off yield != Effective Interest Rate. After factoring in the 6 days of 0% cash transit drag during application clearing, the real yield is even lower than the printed rate. Which is why comparing raw uncommitted T-bill yields against guaranteed bank promos in a single breath misleads readers.

Back to proper thread discussions!

On a T-bill you cannot buy. I'm quoting the official published yield (% p.a.) on the secondary market. That's what "about 1.88% currently" means.
2. T-bill Yields are NOT Guaranteed: The Oct 22 auction hasn't cleared.
On the secondary market, yes they are guaranteed, at the price/yield you get when you purchase. For a future T-bill, no, we don't know the exact yield yet. That's also what "about 1.88% currently" means.

Sure, and you can take 1.78% if you want. But that's unlikely to be a wise decision in yield terms.
3. True EIR Erosion: Raw cut-off yield != Effective Interest Rate.
Yes, but there's currently about a 10 basis point spread. That's a lot! Also, SDIC caps at S$100,000 coverage. T-bills are directly government guaranteed.

First you cited the Oct 22 primary auction order deadline, and now you’re shifting goalposts to secondary market quotes.

Retail investors applying for cash yield don't buy 6-month T-bills on the secondary market via bank portals—brokerage fees and bid-ask spreads eat into small retail allocations ($10k–$50k).

Posting static, theoretical secondary quotes misses the point of how retail cash execution works.

That is precisely why dedicated tracking threads exist—like this MariBank thread, which helps members track fast-moving weekly FD tranches (e.g. 1,000-quota drops swinging from 2.08% to 1.68% and selling out in minutes) . Of course members should be aware there are other banks now offering 2%pa for 6mths if they are reading the Deposits Thread!

Actual capital management is about net executed returns on cash—not throwing around secondary quotes that aren't practical for retail deployment.

So do you want to continue to derail this thread with your theories, or can we get back to helping members manage their cash efficiently?

Waiting for Mod!

One of the key objectives of this thread: help members track fast-moving weekly FD tranches.

Highest so far is 2.08%pa, tomorrow is only 1.78%pa.

Always selling fast like hot cakes!

I was late into the Maribank game.

But I got to enjoy 2.88%pa on my first savings with them when all the other banks are paying less for HYSA with them!

Retail savers engage in “capital management”?🤔
Deciding where to allocate cash to optimise net returns is capital management, regardless of the amount involved.

When the numbers don't support the argument, debating terminology doesn't change the reality of bank promotions offering 2.00% or more.

Where is Mod!
