Foreign tax provision in Trump budget bill spooks Wall Street

For foreign investors, Section 899 would increase taxes on dividends and interest on US stocks and some corporate bonds by 5 percentage points every year for four years. It would also impose taxes on the American portfolio holdings of sovereign wealth funds, which are currently exempt."

Story in FT and Yahoo Finance

Yeah - i'm spooked 2
This recurring talk of tax on foreign owners of US equities and bonds can't be a coincidence.

The way I see it, both dems and gop have no reason to reject this provision, since it does not impact their constituents. Dems did previously talk about taxing capital gains so this is more or less inline with their agenda... As for GoP, if you are not American, they couldn't care less about you. Both parties are more than happy to pass the tabs onto foreigners.

Even if the current bill falters in congress, this provision will likely make its way into future bills.
