I applied a BTO with my fiance 4 years ago with Married Child Priority Scheme. My fiance's parents are retrenched last year and has stopped working since. They are planning to downgrade their HDB to studio apartment.

If they proceed with downgrade, can we still collect our keys when the BTO is ready next year or have the $50k+ downpayment forfeited? If they downgrade their flat after we collect the keys then we have to force sell the flat back to HDB is it?

Anyone has similar situation with me before? It's a mistake to apply through the MCPS and I hope everything will go though smoothly as we want to start a family after key collection.

Better call HDB to check... Can they move within same town or 2km radius from your new home?

Under MCPS, the relevant parents are still allowed to downgrade/shift house, but must continue to live within the same estate or within 2km of your new flat. So it's not totally closed off to you.

You may wish to check with HDB for more accurate details. Alternatively, you can also appeal to HDB if the parents need to shift elsewhere

I did call up hdb to enquire as I also applied thru mcps. If they are unable to relocate within 2km or same town, they can also move in with u for 5 years and after the 5 years mop they can buy studio apartment. So even if they have the intention to downgrade now, hdb will also block their sales if it's not under the condition of 2km or within same town. Hope it helps.

How about rent out the common room to earn some income? Like that your parents can have income and keep the flat, you also no need to worry abt the Mcps regulations.

Would this work?

Thanks for the replies. I think the best option now is to help parents pay for the installments for next 6 years. They are separated now so there is no extra room to rent out in the 3 room flat.

It's our fault that we did not read the MCPS in details. We know there is priority to apply for a flat near parents flat, but we did not know that the parents cannot move out for 10 years (5 years of waiting + 5 years MOP) when we applied for the flat. The officer did not mention anything about the scheme during selection of unit.

Btw are parents allow to apply for studio apartment after we collect our keys, or they need to wait for our flat to fulfill MOP before doing so?
