mass comm vs business admin

which is better? mass comm or business admin?
seems like there are few job listings for mass comm, and most are sales-related.
copywriting, corporate communications have very few vacancies, it seems.
how are the job prospects like?
business admin:
some people who did business admin, ended up doing admin work.....
but for marketing etc., generally, it seems like they prefer a specialized marketing degree.
is SIM worthwhile if there are exemptions?

Hi.

Mass communication is consider a specialized field. If you are interested in Journalism, this is the thing for you. You will most likely be hired by press companies, or the media circles. However do note that your job scope will most likely entails reporting and writing.

Business Admin on the other hand is a general discipline. It mainly equipped you with the knowledge to administrate things in the business world. For example, generating KPI reports for certain forecasts, or compiling of business minutes for the Directors' report.

Choose wisely as both discipline does not intersect. Thus it is hard to make a reversal once chosen wrongly.

Regardless mass comm or business admin, as long as you are good and scored well, there will be prospects for you.
If you are average, it will be hard for you to target competitive jobs.

At SIMGE, Buffalo and Birmingham offers degrees that have both communication and business-related majors.
For UniSIM part-time, there are majors like Communication with Business, Communication or Business.

hmm, looking at uni of buffalo. from accountancy, grades ain't too good. but i know for business modules, there is the possibility of transfer credits, making the course possibly cheaper.

Do note that you do NOT need a journalism/communications degree to go into journalism. Just do a search for "journalist" or "straits times" on linkedin and you will see many journalists in singapore are not journalism/communications graduates.



This is totally not true. There are so many business grads in communication jobs (advertising, journalism, public relations, tv/film). Admittedly, there are much fewer communication grads in business jobs - hence my advice to students to do business instead of communications if you are unsure about your interests as business degrees open up more opportunities to you.
