Mate series got not much improvement over older Huawei. The camera is the only thing that you can see. The rest is minor improvements not see-able.

I recently visited Huawei store in Shanghai, I must say very impressive when I go hands on with the mate 80 series especially the mate 80 pro max, very premium and the camera is really good!

The shop was super crowded just like apple store.

Didn't take any pictures of the mate 80 series as my attention was drawn away by the matebook fold. Truly remarkable hardware and software from Huawei!

You.can use GMS. 99% of apps is usable running EMUI. Chipset no problems unless you're playing AAA games.

Though I've never tried it, I suspect that things should work alright if you install microG Companion and microG Services from Huawei's AppGallery. Once done, there's no need to use GBox for GMS dependent apps.

At Huawei in Westgate, I saw that these microG apps were pre-installed in their display Huawei Mate 80 Pro.

There are of course also VPNs available from AppGallery, but perhaps they are not the ones you prefer.

Can use micro G with Aurora store if you don't want to use gbox. Micro G is the basis of all Android ASOP to connect to.GMS.

Unfortunately, Huawei Singapore, when asked, could not give any information about when the Mate 80 Pro Max will be available here.

I've read that the Enjoy 90 Pro Max, with 8500mAh battery, has extraordinary battery life... at least with Harmony OS 6.

Picked up a Mate 80 Pro Max as a spare phone while in China last week, and it’s a beast of a device. After installing EasyAbroad, almost every app works fine, with Carousell being the only exception. The satellite feature worked flawlessly in China, though region settings block it here. Since I’ll be traveling to China frequently, having a mainland set with a local mobile planis a good choice, try out the grab and copy and it is awesome.
