I upgraded from poco f3 to f8.
From 4.5k lithium to 6k+ silicon carbon

Nowadays all China phones use silicon batteries which has a larger capacity on data sheet to impress consumers. The problem with it is they expand and contract alot, and can deteriorate alot quicker.

My battery for my f8 don't last much longer than my f3 and it's quite clear to me that the battery is depleting faster compare to just five months before. Yet it states that my battery is near 100 pct healthy too.
My f3 was even more bloated with 200+ apps apps as I had it for about 4 to 5 years.


Apple, Samsung, Google all these are not using silicon. Not as if they can't afford it or source it.

Do you charge your phone daily, and if so, once or twice a day? You set your charging limit to 70%, within this 8 months your phone recognise how many charge cycles?

I want to Mythbusters the claim that, when you maintain your battery to never charge below 20% and to stop charging not more than 80%, the phone doesn’t recognise that as a charge cycle so the battery doesn’t deteriorate.

The misperception of silicon carbon battery expand a lot and faster deterioration has been debunked. Reality is apple and samsung wants to use silicon carbon battery too but there is no competitive pressure in global market compared to china market to progress on specs.

aople samsung still using 480hz pwm flickering screen, samsung s ultra using same camera for 4-5 years.

There is rumor samsung working on silicon carbon battery of single cell 12000mah, but still cannot solve the swelling. Swelling to due to gas from electrolyte not the silicon.

Modern lithium batteries have built in coulomb counter that measure charge flowing in out of battery. Any amount of charge will count toward a charge cycle.

All lithium batteries starts to deteriorate the moment it left the factory production line. Even left on shelf idle will self deteriorate by 1-2% per year.

Poco f8 has this intelligent charging system that stops at 79pct.
I also charge before it reaches 30. It's rated for up to 100w but i use my lenovo laptop 60w charger which I also used for my f3.

Yet, the deterioration for my poco f8 using the crappy silicon carbon battery is obviously faster than my poco f3 that I charge to 100 and often let it drop below 20. My poco f3 even had overheating issues.

Phone settings battery health is not and never is current actual battery capacity. It is estimated value based on usage pattern, charge cycle, age.

My xiaomi 10 pro settings battery health explanation said the 'battery health' is difference of current maximum capacity and brand new battery. Phone still state battery health as excellent. lol I think there is one 3 states excellent, good , poor. Current estimated maximum capacity by battery coulomb counter in debug log is about 64%.

Brand new phone with brand new battery 0 charge cycle also cannot achieve the phone maker specs rated or typical battery capacity. Got reviewer teardown brand new retail phones to measure the actual battery capacity with battery tester equipment. All have some capacity reduction to extend battery longevity. largest was 15.5% lesser than typical capacity.

In teardown video of poco 8 pro, the battery cell supplier is sunwoda subsidiary liwei, code LWN. Sunwoda was sued for 2.3 billion rmb by geely for allegedly supplied battery with quality issues that caused faster battery degradation in 2023 zeeker 001 86kwh. Had to replace with CATL battery. Later settled at balance 600 million compensation spread over few years.

Last year volvo ex30 battery fire risk recall was also supplied by sunwoda.

Poco f8 ultra battery cell is supplied by ATL.
