has this new article content infringe any forums rules?

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...hey-were-sick-of-having-scary-dreams.6752384/
if individuals are displeased with the content perhaps the individual can ignore this thread instead forcing thread to be locked for everyone.

i will like to caution hwz mods not to go the path of liberal leftism or ultra conservatism being sway easily bec just a few individual feel unhappy abt certain things.

again do not lock reply for this thread until feedback is completed.

Mods have the right to censor without giving you a reason.

(a) remove or decline to accept any User Content from the Site without assigning any reason whatsoever; and/or

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/sin...dia-trust-900m-editorial-independence-2499221
MP Alex Yam (PAP-Marsiling-Yew Tee) asked how MCI will ensure editorial independence continues to be upheld in the newsrooms.

In response, Mrs Teo said that SMT has exercised editorial independence since its establishment in 1984 as Singapore Press Holdings.

“Funding support does not change that, as is the case with Mediacorp since 2011,” she said.

Yahoo removed their commenting system for a reason. If you guys behaved, the thread would have survived.

Disagree with Jo Teo,s comments. Someone posted some UnI photo of Jo Teo. I said she looks like someone who had a lot of seks in Uni hostel, end up get points. But if I said Tokiya had lots of seks in Uni hostel, I won’t have gotten points.

so obviously there is no such thing as independence after jiaking the money,

Hi @radish

I took a look at the moderator logs for the thread. Your post content in itself is perfectly fine. The thread was locked due to the remarks made by other users which were highly inappropriate.
(Such as raping deity statues etc.)

Since action had been taken against these errant users and the 10+ offensive posts have been unapproved, I have reopened the thread.

i see i understd now, so instead of punishing/controlling the person who create the single problematic post....... the mod choose to punish the entire thread that by itself do not have problem as u stated.

well u can keep the thread locked or unlocked its up to your discretion.

but do consider this, are the mods giving too much power to the trolls? is this fair moderation?

to recap again this thread is basically a harmless simple articke abt some thieves stolen some idols and returned to the temple after having misgiving from nightmares. if a thread like this need to be closed then how many other threads to be locked?

time and again there is a glaring issue on uneven moderation. of cos as a common helpless user i do appreciate mods keeping the place in order but i do urge the mods to consider their action.

i'm not pinning fault on any mod i just hope as mods u all do rem u are here to serve the general forum members not serving the few trolls. mod responsibility is mimimal intervention to the forum and act only when situation is going out of hand which in this case it has not. wat is out of hand? clear cut discrimination, racial abuse, hatred stirring.... etc.

edmw is not exactly a fragile forum and we shouldnt go the path of being so ultra sensitive self censorship or try to prune the forum like some ultra sanitized bonsai plant subjected to a mod's personal perference/standard. as mods u shape the direction of the forum and i hope u all understd wat actually made this forum popular and wat make u want to come here in the first place as users.

I think the simple and convenient answer from mods will be to ask you to stay away from this forum if you are unhappy, as they have the right to censor.

Hope you gain enlightenment and accept that your thread was correctly deleted.

why are you mini modding?
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Mini Modding
Mini Modding / Mini Moderating.

Mini Modding is when someone is trying to take over the job of Moderator.
This person is most likely willing to become an actual Moderator and is trying to act like one to show he/she is fit for it.

A "mini mod" is a term commonly used with networking communication services that require "moderators" to run, (E.G "discord"). Its a person that acts like a staff member / d
Make comments that are usually incorrect and annoying and gets in the way of the actual staff because they believe they are correct.

I looked up the term, please enlighten me in what way I fit the definition. From what I see there is at least one comment here in which user tries to behave like an actual mod.

Perhaps instead of asking me that question, maybe the time spent could be used to address TS queries?

This is ridiculous.

I was just telling TS something that has been told to me before - abide by the rules, or leave if unhappy. Which is fair enough and I don't see anything wrong with that. Therefore, how is that incorrect?

So based on words you are able to assume that I am annoying?

I think everyone can see. You want to call me out for mini-modding? Sure, then call out post #7 as well or the other resident mini-modders and not show double standards.

I believe I have been very cordial in our discussions thus far. Additionally, out of respect for TS' queries, other mods & admins, I do not wish to derail this thread by arguing further here.

I agree with you particularly the last paragraph. We generally do not take heavy hand / censorship when possible.

To reiterate again, there is nothing wrong with your sharing of the article. I could see from my end over 7-10 moderator actions on that thread of 30 posts. Hence, locking the thread is a way to de-escalate a “hot / contentious” thread.

What was inappropriate was the responses by a few errant users posting irresponsibly on sensitive race-religious matters. Their degrading racist and remarks were unnecessary in a multi racial, multi cultural country like Singapore.

Hence, after action was taken on those posts, the thread was locked and remained until your feedback to us.

so instead of asking problematic user to stay away u asking a user who did nothing wrong to bare the consequence of another user who is a wrong doer?

in this case any random thread could be targetted for troll reply and then mods will lock the thread?

no, this thread is not correctly locked.

while i have no personal concern on this particular thread being live or dead i feel we should always let the forum run its course unless there is abuse occur which then the intervention should be at the abuser alone.

i thanks the mods for clarification and this is the end of my feedback.

i think few will disagree degrading racist remarks can be tolerated in a muticultural society like sg, i personally will not tolerate such.

my point is locking a hot/contentious poster/user the correct decision, locking a thread on a article that basically has nothing wrong is not the right decision.

problematic users/trolls can find random threads and random angles to troll to escalate into potential hot/contentious threads, we must consider wat power/leverage the mods are giving to the trolls.

again i not appealing for this particular thread to be lock or unlock, my interest is uneven moderation and i hope u all give some thought to this.

mods shoulder the responsibility of keeping order but how do u execute this and to wat extent is a question. shaping the forum towards a ultra sensitive self censorship is not the right direction for the forum especially edmw.

note when situation escalate its bec the bad poster stir up gd posters to react to the bad poster. is the bad poster the problem or non bad poster the problem here?

we are all responsible for our own post not the post of other ppl. like wise the repercussion/consequence of each post should be bear by the individual poster not other users.

there seems to be also users who have query on my feedback, to repeat myself i give another illustration to reinforce my point.

imagine we are managing a road, our primary purpose is to let vehicles move on the road. a nut create nuisance on a bus so we take this bus off the road. then tomorrow this nut go on other buses to create nuisance are we going to stop other buses too? in the end if this nut continues are we going to stop all buses from the road? so we are allowing this nut alone to control which vehicle can move on the whole road?

In an idealistic forum what you have stated would work. Unfortunately the E in Edmw does not stand for Eutopia. The thread was locked from the stand point of egregious behaviour. There’s also no way that we can be here on site 24/7 to actively monitor all threads.

We have taken note of your feedback and will see how to refine our processes further (perhaps with time outs and post approvals) when it comes to threads of such nature.

Cheers, and enjoy your Sunday!
