I am thinking of building a rig mainly for 3D rendering.
What do you think of these components?

If you do not need the PCIe lanes of Threadripper, wait for Ryzen 3000 series.

It has an R9 3900X, 12 Core, 24 Threads part that is clocked higher than 2700x (3.8/4.6) and has 15% improved IPC...

Ryzen 3000 series, selling July 7th.

Both gpu are the same so the only comparison is cpu and ram
The first option is for more heavy user. The second option is for average user. So, it all come down what you are doing with maya?

I am intending to do some ultra-HD rendering of 3D images. Do I really need a CPU cooler or will the stock cooler suffice?

4k rendering? then 64gb ram sounds about right

and yes, is better to wait for the new ryzen release, the new ryzen processor is more efficient (base on the demo presentation) than the current threadripper for this. still, wait for the benchmark before deciding

No overclock then can stick with stock cooler unless you want it to be even more quiet.

Hi, sorry for bringing up this thread but now then Ryzen 9 has been out for quite some time and lots of benchmarks done on the 3900X where it outperforms the threadripper and still much more cost efficient; does anyone already have a stable 3900X set up recommendation?
