Inspired by The Beatles, Taiwanese rock band Mayday has worked its way from empty pub gigs to consistently headlining stadiums throughout Asia.

With millions of concert tickets sold and reportedly hundreds of millions of sales across its nine albums, this 'Mandopop' quintet - a term referring to Mandarin language pop music - is very well known throughout its home continent, having formed as high school friends and become celebrities in their own right.

In terms of its broad appeal and hit-making abilities, Mayday can be considered an analogue to an English-speaking stadium rock act like Coldplay, whose most recent world tour broke box office records.

In Australia to date, however, Mayday's profile has been limited to playing arenas for its existing fanbase - but on February 22 it will attempt a major leap in the Australian market by becoming the first Mandarin rock act to headline Sydney's Accor Stadium, before 40,000 fans.
