Hi JK,

I just bought a rt-ac68u, do you know which firmware version has the best wifi performance in terms of range?

Sent from Sony D6653 using GAGT

Dear redsox,

There is no such firmware for the best wireless performance.

However, I suggest you install latest beta firmware as it's much stable then the current official build.

After update the firmware and you are require to do a factory reset.

Best regard,
JK

Hi ASUS@SG

Hi ASUS@SG,

I had a RT-N16 and bought a RT-AC68U (US version, will be in Singapore by Nov.).
Due to the wireless router location is far away from the ONT, can I use N16 as a wire-router (wired from WAN to ONT) and AC68U as an AP (wired from WAN to N16 LAN)?
If yes, will it limit AC68U’s performance (speed for example)?
Regards!

The N16 may not have very high routing throughput (< 200 Mbps according to SNB review).

Dunno whether Asus@SG will reply you since you broke his rice bowl and bought from U.S. :vijayadmin:

Haha, bought it from us is to get higher Tx power(up to 25dBm).

Thank you, Ah-Pin-Kor, for your information about N16 throughput. It is about 140+Mbps only.
But the spec. said 1 x RJ45 for 10/100/1000 BaseT for WAN and 4 x RJ45 for 10/100/1000 BaseT for LAN that should be able to get 1000 Mbps between WAN and LAN.

I have a D-Link DIR-865L, don't know how much throughput is, whether it is better than N16.

I think whether both ASUS's routers may work better than with others.

What do you think?

Thanks!

My 2 local bought AC68Us both had ccode=US but I'm not sure whether Asus ships SG ones nowadays. Newer local bought models like RT-AC3200 unit has SG code. Anyway the country code can be changed if you know how. :vijayadmin:

The WAN/LAN ports are specced at 1000Mbps but the routing throughput is a separate thing and might not be that high.

I'm not sure of the routing throughput of the 865L. I read on a forum some guy from Romania can hit 900+Mbps speed. Since you already have the 865L, try it out first and let us know the result.

The main router and access point are connected through standard protocols so I don't think having both of the same brand will have advantage.

Hi Ah-Pin-Kor,
Thank you for your suggestion. I will try it once I got AC68U.
According to the website <http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wirelessfeatures/
32431isyourrouterstransmitpowerjuiced>, the Tx power limit (by FCC) is varied for each band.
For AC68U, band I (34-48) limit is 17dBm and band II (149-163) is 30dBm.

That data is a bit old now.
The FCC has since raised the power limit of channels 36-48 to 1W (same as the higher channels), but I doubt Broadcom/Asus is following so closely to the new regulations.
http://www.revolutionwifi.net/revolutionwifi/2014/04/impact-of-fcc-5-ghz-u-nii-report-order.html
Anyway, the power amplifiers inside the AC68U won't go to 1W, no matter what the settings are.

5GHz: Skyworks;SE5023L
2.4GHz: Richwave;RTC6649E
https://wikidevi.com/wiki/ASUS_RT-AC68U
You can Google the spec sheets for the amps above to find their max power limit.

I just replaced my N56U which I used as my main router and N66U which I used as an access point with 2 x AC68U.
When i got the new routers, i immediately update to the latest stable drivers and then moved on to the beta driver which was released here.
However, my wired connection is pretty sluggish. On speedtest on Singtel server, i got DL speed of 320+ and UL speed of just 80+. I used to get abt 500Mbps DL speed and 400Mbps UL speed on my old routers.
I am on Singtel Fibre 500Mbps.
I have checked the speed by connecting directly to the main router and connecting via access point. I have also used a desktop and 2 laptops to check for the performance which yield more or less the same speedtest results. The QoS is disabled also.
Is there anything that I should look out for?

Dear bkling,

There is no way to transfer your settings to newer router.

Hi Jk,
What is the recommended firmware to download and install now? Just got a 68u and wanted to try out at my old home first.
