Considering flashing to Tomato shibby 1.28. There's a 64K NVRAM firmware build... is this a better option and why ? Thanks

Those who have flashed to Tomato, I wish to achieve the scenario:

a) Enable a US VPN (PPTP) tunnelling only for specific devices.

Would be great if you could share the steps? Thanks

By the way are you on Singtel Fibre plan?

h030831

Yes.
Using the ISP profile Singtel-MIO, internet and MIO TV all working except Mio voice.
Try to login to 192.168.1.1/Singtel to troubleshoot but the password "techsupport" invalid.

cyberle007,
Are you given the PACE modem or the 2wire 5012 NV to connect on port 3 for your MIO voice.
You could connect the Singtel modem first to ONT to see if MIOvoice is working first or not.

Hey, was anyone able to get the PPTP VPN feature working on this router?

Firmware version: 3.0.0.3.162
Settings:
  • Broadcast support: Yes / BOTH (I have tried No, same effect)
  • Authentication: Auto
  • MPPE Encryption: MPPE-128, MPPE-40, No
  • Connect to DNS Server Automatically: Yes
  • Connect to WINS Server Automatically: Yes

I have set my LAN IP Address range to 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.240, and set the VPN range to 192.168.1.241 - 192.168.1.250.

Log output trying to connect from my iPhone 4S (I turned off wireless and was trying to connect through 3G):
Code:
Aug 5 09:39:00 pptp[656]: Plugin pptp.so loaded.
Aug 5 09:39:00 pptp[656]: PPTP plugin version 0.8.5 compiled for pppd-2.4.5, linux-2.6.22.19
Aug 5 09:39:00 pptp[656]: pppd 2.4.5 started by admin, uid 0
Aug 5 09:39:00 pptp[656]: Using interface ppp10
Aug  5 09:39:00 pptp[656]: Connect: ppp10 <--> pptp (xx.xx.xx.xx)
Aug 5 09:39:30 pptp[656]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Aug 5 09:39:30 pptp[656]: Connection terminated.
Aug 5 09:39:30 pptp[656]: Modem hangup
Aug 5 09:39:30 pptp[656]: Exit.

Googling returns a few results, but I couldn't find anything helpful.

EDIT: Son of a b****, it was Singtel playing punk with me all along. Apparently the e-ideas APN doesn't allow PPTP VPN to work. The internet APN works, but then tethering is not an option. WTF.....

Ok this is weird... it works when I'm using wireless (as in, the wireless from the same router I'm trying to VPN into). It doesn't work via 3G on my iPhone though. :s11::s11::s11:

Successfully setup RT-N66U .162 to use with Starhub fibre plan. Speed is great however, I noticed a very funny bug. When there is a download using download manager, certain sites will not load properly (even using different machines). My son's Minecraft also will not connect. When this happens, acecss to speed test is ok and speed test with good speeds. (So its not the case where the WAN bandwidth max out).

When download is complete, all is back to normal. Tested firmware .151 and 162 with same results.

I would think that you are looking for wireless N performance, then I think you might want to consider either the N56 or the N66. For me, the AC66 is for the wireless AC. That's why I got 2 to build an AC bridge. :)

Do let us know the real world speeds using two of these in AC bridge.

Might consider this path if speeds are good.

Just bought this router! awesome!

a question.

right now my configuration is

RT-N66U(LAN port 2) > DIR-825(WAN port)

When i connect to my RT-N66u via wireless or wired.

i can never go to the GUI page of my dir-825 which i have set the default gateway.

I tried static route from RT-N66u to the dir-825 default gateway but fail.

anyone know any solution?

Yes. Mio voice is working when using Singtel Pace Modem alone.
After I connect N66U and follow the setup, all working fine except the mio voice.
Looking at the log with errors:

app err /usr/bin/voip can't get 'bb2' ip address, cannot assign requested address.

Do I need to setup "bridge" mode and if require, how?

Guess may need to used the older ASUS RT-N66U B1 Firmware Version 3.0.0.3.108. Believe that version most singtel fibre users said all working, unless someone have any solutions?

Hi h030831,
Thanks for your advise.

Here are more info about the Pace Gateway modem setting:
At Firewall configuration setting, Firewall is enable
At Multicast setting, IGMP proxy is enable
At NAT and Port Forwarding setting, NAT service is enable.
At DMZ configuration setting, DMZ is disable.
At UPnP services setting, UPnP service is enable, Stealth mode is disable, Enable UPnP port Forwarding is enable.

Hope some expert here can advise.

Thanks!

Try setting up your DIR-825 IP to 192.168.2.1. That's what I did with my previous setup.

yes my DIR is set to 192.168.2.1 for the router setting.

doesn't work.

DIR825 is connected VIA DHCP.

RT-N66U(LAN port 2) > DIR-825(WAN port)

my DIR825 is set to DHCP to get the ip from RT-N66U.

but dir is set to 192.168.2.1.

tried but doesnt work.

Try reboot your devices after re-configured.
After reboot, try connect the device one by one to isolate the problems and find the missing link.
