Hi,

my bro's OEM PC has some issue and now planning to replace the MB and CPU.

Is the combo of i5-6400 and Asus B150 Pro Gaming good choice?

The difference between H170 and B150 is RAID?

Looking to reuse the existing DDR3 RAMs if possible. PSU and graphics card is just changed earlier this year.

OEM PC brand and model? Must verify form factor and clearance to know which motherboards are compatible...

Won't recommend regular DDR3 to go with Skylake platform as they may spoil the DDR3 IMC on Skylake processor on the long run...

The casing is changed out to corsair 450D when he upgraded the graphics.

So it would be better to make the jump to DDR4?

I think he should go with Haswell given existing DDR3 still usable.

Can consider Core i5-4460 with ASUS H81-GAMER or ASRock Fatal1ty B85 Killer

Regular as in operating on standard voltage, i.e. 1.5V for DDR3

Skylake only officially supports DDR3L which runs at 1.35V.

I see. He does alot of rendering of video so i am thinking if should up it to a i7 or not. He still studying though.

With what software?

One good point about Haswell is the wider overclocking support on all of its chipsets for K CPUs.
