Hi all,

Recently my machine started going crazy. It started off with the fan speed alternating from normal running speed to max speed (alternating every second), and later on it just run at max speed every time. Then I started experiencing system freeze a lot.

I thought it may likely be due to the MB getting sick, hence would like to upgrade MB and CPU.

Current spec:
Processor - AMD Athlon II X4 630 - 2.8GHz
Motherboard - Biostar TA785G3+

Graphic Card - MSI R7850 Power Edition 2GD5
Memory - Team Elite DDR3-1333MHz 4GB (2X2GB)
Storage Drive - Seagate 7200.12 500 / Corsair 120GB SSD
Display - Dell U2311
Optical Drive - Samsung 22x DVDrw SATA
Power Supply Unit - Seasonic X Series 850W
Casing - CoolerMaster Elite 334
Operating System - Windows 7

May I get some recommendation for the upgrade please?
Budget is around <$1000. No plans for overclocking. No plans for dual graphic cards either. Would prefer intel cpu

Also wondering if any shops do take in these old MB and CPU?

Thanks!!

regards,

just get a 970 or 990 motherboard and use back the Athlon II if the system still handle the daily tasks very well.
Unless you're looking for a sustaintial performance upgrade

check how high your cpu temperature first
maybe just need to reapply thermal paste

Depends on what you really wanna do, if there is nothing intensive you can reuse the CPU and get the 970 chipset mobo.

If you do tend to game, then might wanna consider an upgrade of both and also reuse most of the components.

From what i can see you got a pretty decent rig there. And athlon II is a strong CPU.

Thanks folks.

I have been forcing the Fan to run at 50% of its current speed, and with that the temperature is at 30 degrees celsius. If I do not do that, the fan will run at crazy max speed regardless of temperature. Likely this is not due to thermal paste anymore right?

And while checking the temperature, I decide to increase the speedfan setting to let fan run at 100% speed, then right away i hit BSOD. It was fine running at 50% for the past 6 hours.

Think i would probably get a replacement MB. Reading up to see if i am capable to replacing it myself. I see PC-Theme having ASUS M5A78L-M LX3 and MSI 760GM-P23(FX) at $98. Would you all recommend a good MB replacement?

Get the asus m5a97x mobo. Solid mobo and able to reuse your cpu. If you are ups for it it can support the newer fx processor. You can even try the fx6300 or fx8320 if you want a decent upgrade.
