Can anyone advise if the following problem due to MB or PSU?

Having issues with Cooler Master v2 550w paired with Asus B150-A D3.

Cooler Master Elite v2 550w, bought 2 months ago
Works with my old Gigabyte P965-S3 MB
Works with another old 20PIN MB
unable to boot up with my new Asus B150-A D3.

The Asus B150-A D3 works without problem with my old Acbel 440w

Tried to power on the cooler master by shorting the green-black pin. Fan start.

Then, I tried something: turn on the behind switch of the cooler master power supply first, and plug the 24 pin to motherboard. It can start

Then I power of the behind switch, wait for 1 min (cold boot), then power on, it doesn't start.

Now I'm confuse. Which one is faulty. I'm suspecting it is the PSU faulty. Because the Asus MB can run with other PSU. However, the PSU can run other MB.
Or maybe the Asus MB is very strict, and refuse to ON on unstable PSU?
So, If I bring RMA, do I need to bring my MB as well?

U can bring down your mobo+cpu with psu to ban leong for testing.

Based on what u mentioned, most likely your psu switch got issues.

hm.. 2 months ago didn't do any research, just buy any reasonable value for money psu. Thought Cooler Master not bad one...

Anyway, will bring mb and psu to Ban Leong.
But I think my MB warranty is Avertek one.

Ban Leong open on saturday right?

Yeah, your mobo is not the high end range, so it belongs to Avertek.

BL does not open on Sat. It closes at 6-6.30pm on weekdays. You can bring psu, mobo+cpu to BL to test psu. If their new psu also dun work with your mobo, then it could be mobo issue le.

I think my 1 week old Cooler Master V850 Gold also dying soon. Heard the voltage arcing sound even at ~50cm away. Seems like some poor contact inside or failing component. Will disconnect the power supply from the m/b and try again later. Thought CM is a well known brand in chassis and power supply :(

If you can hear arcing or spark-like sound from PSU, highly recommend not to use it and just RMA. If it goes all out, who knows what components it might kill as well. Not worth it.

U can try the paperclip test to see if the sound is still there.

Can't test it after disconnected the power plug from m/b. The PSU won't turn on. I guess there must be some kind of feedback signal from m/b in order to on the PSU. Recorded a video with the voltage arcing sound.
Just called BL service center. They will offer 1-to-1 replacement on the spot since stock is avail.

PS: OK, just google it and learned your paper clip test. That's prolly to close the feedback loop so that PSU can turn on without connecting to the m/b. Thks for the good tips. Will keep this trick for future...if needed :)

Note that you are not supposed to connect other cables to your mobo or other components.

Noted with thks! Won't do it this time since BL will replace it 1-to-1. Don't want to burn it if insert wrong pins by mistake, then warranty void :o

If you want your rig to last long, buy a better quality PSU like SuperFlower, Seasonic, etc. Your 1 to 1 replacement PSU is still crap.

I did some online research before buying and this CM V850 Gold seems to be a good PSU with reliable build, excellent voltage regulation, etc. Awarded by many respected reviewers as well. The SLS retailer suggested to get the Superflower, but I didn't take his advice :o

BTW, not cheap though...$229

You should take with a pinch of salt when reading online reviews.

This happened to me too when bros here are much hype about Corsair PSUes. What followed is I got the Corsair HX620W and the input capacitor exploded in about 2 years out of 5 years usage/warranty. What I did not realize then was Corsair PSU manufacturing is sub-con business.

Lately, Seasonic PSU also got quality issue, resulting is increased RMA return.

I have not been in this desktop PC business for more than 10 yrs. CM is a 'branded' product to me 10 yrs ago as compared to SuperFlower. Thought retailer wanted to clear over-stocked SuperFlower hence the offer. Anyway, just cross-finger on the next replacement CM PSU. Thks!

Just did a paperclip test. Same voltage arcing sound inside the PSU. Probably something loose or faulty. Going BL on Thu for exchange.
Good tips to isolate the PSU from the m/b. Thks!
