Hi guys,
I'm starting school again in month and I want to get the best computer I can. Right now, I currently have a MBP Mid-2012 but I'm thinking to trade it with a MBA 2013.

I'm a student. I don't do anything that is CPU intensive or GPU intensive...I don't play any games. I surf the web, make documents, work on projects etc...

Based on my description, do you think the MBP suits me better or the MBA? Thank you in advance!! :)

P.S. This is also a concern because the retina version is already so light and when compared to a MBA, it doesn't make that much difference.

Point of clarification: Are you currently using a Retina MBP?

MBA screen not so bad lah. It's just that after using rMBP's screen, you don't want to go back to MBA because it looks washed out.

agreed
im one of them

im now using a 2011 mbp 13"
and already damm tempted by rmbp
but more into the 15" rmbp

I'm in a similar predicament except that I've got MBP/rMBP on my list. I like the fact that MBP's RAM/HDD is upgradable down the line if I wish to and it has Ethernet which I need. Rumor has it it might be phased out soon, so I'm thinking I should just get it if I decided on this model. That said, the retina just blew me away but the RAM/HDD are soldered. Then the MBA's portability is just lovely but lacks Ethernet (I just need to get an adapter). Decision, decision. IMO, MBA would suffice for your usage. If a brilliant screen is important to you, get the rMBP. Hope this helps.

Thunderbolt to gigE adaptor is just 38 dollars. Lack of ethernet port should not be a consideration here.

Yep, I meant it's not upgradable. It's not about the cost of the adapter but the convenience of the Ethernet port there. Also, the ample storage in the MBP is a plus. Having said that, I am very tempted to get the rMBP but the 256GB SSD is not enough for me and upgrading to 500GB SSD is too expensive with the store. The retina screen is killing me. So pretty. Ugh. Question: How you guys manage with 256GB storage?

Question: How you guys manage with 256GB storage?

You can carry portable HDD around. Pro is cheap, con is bulky/heavy

Or you can carry multiple SDXC cards. Pro is light, con is expensive.

Alternatively, manage your storage properly. You certainly don't need to carry multiple movies around when you travel. Big game apps, you can safely move them to an external storage when you are not playing them for a while, then move back when you feel like playing them again. Music files are a bit iffy, but I'm not sure if you can move iTunes library songs around external/internal storage.

I have my 15" rMBP for 1 year already, with 256Gb space, and out of that, 50Gb is for bootcamp windows. Right now, I still have 100Gb free in total.

Currently, i use bootcamp 100gb windows for games with my friends. 2013 rmbp 15". Loving it so far.

With many movies like runningman 720p. i still have 100gb on my mac side.

windows installation takes up more than 30gb, even after removing many features. i was shocked. When storage run out then say lor.

Now adays movies all can stream. Hardly have any big files. I don't have any music though.

Poly project files and videos. Uni stuffs. All cant take up much storage.

Have keynote, number, pages, microsoft office 2011. Many photos from iphone. Google chrome, vlc.

And that still left me with 100gb at OSX, and 100gb was partition with windows.

Plentiful of storage.

I have 2x 500gb hdd 3.0 for backup. Pictures, softwares, movies, documents. 1 for home/school, 1 for office.
