MBPr 'Service Battery' notification

I have a 13" MBPr. When I click on the battery icon, it says 'Service Battery', but I have only done about 500+ charge cycles. Isn't a battery suppose to last around 1000 charge cycles?

if no apple care then very expensive.

maybe you can DIY or approach 3rd party shop

u never say yr MBPr is which model. anyway likely oem batt can b bought off eBay or aliexpress to diy. ymmv though...
