McDonald's Singapore has retired its plastic cutlery.

According to a statement by McDonald's, it is making way for "sustainable" meal companions — wooden cutlery.

The transition is part of the fast food restaurant's "efforts towards sustainability" and to "do good for the planet".

Singapore customers have noticed the transition to wooden cutlery as early as October 2024.

McDonald's mentioned on its website's FAQ page that by switching to wooden cutlery, the chain aims to "reduce single-use plastics and minimise use of plastic packaging".

One of its FAQs added that the fast food chain will save an average of 125,000kg of plastic utensils annually by switching to wooden cutlery.

Thus far, its switch to strawless lids have saved 19 million pieces of plastic straws a year, McDonald’s stated.

actually they already been doing this for sometime slowing phasing out plastic ones.

i get their disposal wooden ones for some time whenever i order the salad.

honestly i dont think this will save environment much but i do think this will drive up cost for mcd which will naturally pass the cost to consumers.

yup dont celebrate too early.

to have the handle hole, you need to paste plastic internally to strengthen the holder.

then why not use plastic bag instead?
