Updated 25/11/2006: Yeah! The Uncle at SIGMA AV repaired it for $60! He said that 8 things like capacitors, etc have blown. The shop is located at #03-16. A backlane shop in SLS. Thank for the recommendations by fellow HWZers. :)

Updated 17/11/2006: Brought to the AMK shop, after a few days, the Uncle said beyond repair, main power supply spoilt :(

Hi, been using this set since 2004, and the woofer blown and died on me yesterday. "Blown" as in it gave a loud boom sound while playing music at normal volume. Most likely something blow off internally in the woofer. The power LED was blinking initially upon power on. But a few hours later, it totally went off.

Checked the fuse, it was alright. Anyone encountered this problem before? Most prob is the need to service it by bringing to the Creative Service Centre. However, I guess the cost of it will not be worth. Any opinions?

Wow $290.. hmm how long is the warranty after service u know? I browse through the Creative international forum.. and seems like most have bad returns after servicing their Gigas/Megas..

Hence I'm pretty concern with the period of warranty after service.. Furthermore.. $290.. is it more worth to get a new set of system? Btw, I opened the woofer.. their internal design is real bad =(

They don't repair subwoofers. They just take a new sub from their stock and give it to you. At least for the Gigaworks/Megaworks. Or so I read :s13:

Haha true! But then it's for PC usage, and I feel the quality of Giga/Mega is not bad.. can't bear to give it up. Furthermore, the rest of the speakers are still working fine. Just that well.. hmm.. no luck.. =)

3 months warranty after servicing.. hmm I thought it will be at least 6 months.. considering the cost of it.. =(

And the quality of those HTIB systems will definitely suffer with the low price. Not to mention, the systems don't usually come with audio/coaxial inputs for connection to your PC.

IMO, the performance of a set of Megaworks 550/Gigaworks 750 will certainly pawn a similarly priced HTIB sets selling at your friendly electronics retailer.

Paying 290 for repair mught as well trash it. Then save up more to get dedicated amps and speakers. That's just my views though...

Personally I also think $290 is far too ex. But in another thread, I heard it can be get for $180 at Creative. Perhaps shld just get a 2.1.

The sound is very noticable. But once it happens, don't ever power it on again. Because other parts may blow too. Mine had a 2nd explode during the 3rd attempt on power on :( Tomorrow I may bring the set down to SIGMA. Thank!

Does the explosion sound scared the hell out of you ? The volumn of explosion is roughly equal to the Megawork volumn at the high, medium or low setting ? Can the explosion sound be heard even if we off the volumn and it comes from woofer inside ?
