And it's not like there are exploits for it now. They've only identified the possible problem and are now patching it via s/w.

Buy AMD for your CPU, and make sure BIOS and OS are fully patched.

All the modern processors are affected, including SOCs used in you mobile phone. So there is no way you can avoid it at least in the near future. If you need a computer now, AMD have 1 less issue (Meltdown) to worry about if you are so worried about these exploits. But you will never know the full extent of problems with hardware since it took them so long to uncover these exploits.

Even if you buy a Spectre-proof Ryzen 3 or Intel 9th gen, it's only a matter of time before Pontianak vulnerability surfaces and it's all back to square one again.

It's always about cost vs benefit in the end. Anything can be hacked, even encryption keys, but who would do that just to see what kind of porn you watch.

If you're a bank or Google, then there is monetary incentives involved. But end up most of the account leaks are due to things more tilted towards human errors anyway.

Human is always and remains the weakest link in any security system.

If you worried about these "flaw", you shouldn't exist in this world for the better good, period.

This is the reason why I'm not even interested to patch my O/S. Unless I'm hired as IT personnel, no damn given for these kind of security patches as long as my system work flawlessly with the work I'm doing. I won't even worry about when the sky will fall on me much less security patches that doesn't really address the issue but pushing more restrictions, advertisement and bloatware to name a few.
