Morning guys, time to give this thread a little bump :) need some advice from the old birds here.

I am interested in the IT security route and I wish to plan a route in this area. I have a Dip in Info-Comm Tech and a Specialist Dip in Network Security.

Regarding Cisco and Microsoft certifications, for an IT professional, I know that the standard Cisco cert which is offers a basic foundation in his career is CCNA.

What about Microsoft certs? Which MS cert is a good place to start off with? Cus I read their cert path on their website and its basically spread out into 2 types: MCSE and MCSA.

MCSA and MCSE is 2 different things

MCSA Security
The MCSA certification verifies your knowledge in system administration of Microsoft Windows operating systems. MCSA certification can help advance your career by confirming that you have the skills necessary to successfully manage and troubleshoot system environments.

MCSE: Security
This MCSE credential verifies your ability to analyze the business requirements for information systems solutions, and to design and implement the security infrastructure based on Windows Server 2003.

MCSE is for implementation and design security infrastructure whereas for MCSA its more of a how to manage and maintain the security infrastructure of a windows server

So depending on what u are keen on, whether u would like to be the implementer or the manager, choose the path that you want

From ITIL V2 to V3, you can take the 3-day V3 Manager's Bridge + 1-day exam, costing about $3780.

ITIL V2 is a 10-day full-time course + 2-day exam, cost about $9550.

In other words, you can go from zero to ITIL V3 EXPERT for < $14K.

Fyi, ITIL V2 will retire on 31 Aug 2010 and ITIL V3 Manager's Bridge on 30 Jun 2011. After that you will cost > $14K to go from zero to ITIL V3 EXPERT. In fact, this is part of the reasons for retiring ITIL V2, it's to fatten the pockets of the greedy training providers!

I am interested to get some microsoft certifications and some friends recommend that MCSA is the best one to start.

Where to study and what are the course fees like? And how long is it??:o:o
