Actually according to cat psychology, the guy has evidently create a bond by "being cold".
1) In nature, staring straight at the eyes of any feline is act of intimidation.
Only prey "dun dare to stare at them". So father look away - Cat: Wow, its a good catch
2) If the prey does not move but sitting there, the cat "catches the prey" with all sorts of play
increase dopamine as "it is in charge". When the cat play with the guy, the guy ignore it - Cat: What a good toy
3) When the cat sit by the side even far away not looking at the same direction. It is a sign of
content. During this time it does not expect to be touched, cuddled or held. Just quietly enjoying company.
- Cat: Chilling with my toy
Though the guy broke this rule, he follow up by rubbing at the right spot 4)
4) This one I think all cat lovers knew. Rubbing the cheeks and bottom chin of cats release pheromones.
They enjoy being touch this way. - Cat: More please
