been self debating which phone to upgrade my very old RedMi Note 3G... it has unfortunately reach EOL, I squeezed every last drop of life from this phone, even rooted to have 2nd Sim do 3G, but 2nd Sim on 3G does not roam data, only local data.

with the 11.11-12.12 sale coming...

RedMi Note 4 vs Mi A1;

$309(4G/64Gb version) vs $359
same size, screen, processor,
4100mAH vs 3080mAH
MIUI vs Stock Android
Second Space vs None
same fingerprint location, which i like vs front facing.
i don't care about dual cameras, they are marketing gimmicks and to me, are useless, I use DSLR's

the only advantage the A1 has is stock android, always playing with the latest version, but also means data wipe and recovery with each new root/flash.

but I would rather have RedMi Note 4's 1000mAH more battery and second space(so gf1 and gf2 won't know of each other, they can play with my unlocked phone as much as they like but each space is a different fingerprint, so as long as i don't hand over my phone unlocked with the wrong fingerprint, i am safe :s13:)

Thoughts/comment/counter arguments/agreements?

I had same consideration before. Finally ended with note4x. Battery life is the main consideration.

Is super to use it as a phone.

yeah, 1020mAH is quite a significant chunk of power, ~30% more

well if u have other devices that needs to pair with esp like health365 bands (depends on which one that give u) MIUI cant work well them. stock have no issues as per a few threads b4 did indicate (might need to search)

other than that its nothing much. just that having stock version gives u better updates on sercuirty as well.

but this really depends on what are ur needs. even though both can be configure to your needs (if u know how to root and change rom)

for ROMS, the RN4 can go both ways stock google rom or MIUI,

A1 does not have a MIUI ROM, 2nd space on MIUI is very very attractive... that's the down side i guess.

rooting/flashing is no prob, been doing it since the T-Mobile G2 days, i even dig around code, that's how i managed to get 2nd sim 3G on my RedMi Note 3G, when stock it's 2G only on 2nd sim.

i don't use any "smart" devices, i like to be disconnected as much as possible.

RN4 is still ahead...

btw redmi note 4 4gb/64gb version isnt it the one with helio x20? i wouldnt recommend that.. seems like the one i used before quite lag on certain games. eg. mobile legends will lag abit, then bleach brave souls also will lag, dead ahead: zombie warfare also lag.. not sure is my set old or i unlucky or the way i use or whatever la.. but i dont have good feedbacks when it comes to mediatek processors.. dont know why.. what i know is that the rmn4 or rmn4x with snapdragon processors are 3/32gb variants only. 64gb are all mediatek processors leh

if you are comparing rmn4 to a1, i rather go for a1, unless you comparing a1 to mi max 2 then i might recommend mi max 2

I need a phone which is very durable and tough and would not break under very stressful environment. Could you recommend me a hp that suits my needs?

A1 for me. Personally I don't care about flashing rom but prefer prompt updates. A1 is amazing fluid with stock. I read with the miui9 it is also pretty solid though. But I don't want to have all the additional Xiaomi apps in my phone.

4X is SD425 >$209
Note 4X is china bands with SD625 and special colors
Note 4 is SD625 >=$259
original note 4, from india, MTK DecaCore

and yes, xiaomi is an ASS for such ******* naming and specs convention.
